Looking for some hex bit sockets for the race box. I've narrowed it down to one of these three choices. Tekton or Capri sets or a single Snap-On in the size I use. My natural inclination is to just get the single size I use on my bike but then I really like sets and if some odd chance I need another size I will have it. What is the quality difference between Tekton and Capri? My only experience with Capri is buying a breaker bar to put a Matco head on and it seems to be a good tool.

I have some Capri, Tekton and Snap-On stuff. I feel the Capri has just as good or better finish than SO and Tekton a close third. Tekto tends to have the best prices while Capri is right behind at a little higher. I prefer Capri as of now but for a race box as you say I’d grab a set of Tekton and never look back

In a home box, I would get the full set. But for at traveling box, no way I would want sets of everything when you know what you'll routinely be working on. Bring only what you need. Less weight, less bulk and much easier to find stuff when you only have the sockets you'll use in the bag/box.

But, if the pricing of the Tekton set is cheaper than the SO, I'd go with that only because their easy warranty policy. Even a well made bit socket can have a few bad apples in the bunch and breaking off the bit isn't unheard of.

My thoughts on a track box tool is to go inexpensive and minimal. I would go single piece Tekton. That S-o will get lost or "permanently borrowed" fast.

What are the consequences of having the tool fail to perform, both in time lost and result of fastener extraction?

Typically anything advertising s2 steel is high quality. I see little difference between the various brands using s2 steel bits that I own. I would see if VIM has anything which would meet your needs. Their low profile style is great.

We're talking motorcycle torque levels here. Not impacting on steam engines. Pretty much any decent tool will be more than sufficient. In 30 years I've never broken a tool wrenching on dirt bikes, even crusty 40 y.o. ones.

Besides, at the track there are usually at least 20 other riders willing to help out with a loaner in a pinch.

Not sure how it would be pointless?

because only real difference is you be paying for service and branding you never going use/benefit from with it sat in race tool box used in low torque low abuse scenario and as stated snapon stuff goes missing better than other 2 brands .
The benefit of snapon over other 2 in your intended usage is zero and the other 2 brands in single would be like 5 to 6 bucks ....

I don't know about how strong the Tekton and Capri ones are, but the made in Taiwan VIM ones are known to be excellent. The Snap on bit sockets are kind of overrated. Mac, Matco, and Cornwell all rebrand the VIM bit sockets and some say the VIM ones are stronger. However, from a DIYer perspective, you are better off finding something halfway decent and easy to warranty. Tekton or Harbor Freight would probably be the better option.

My thought would be a full set unless you are limited on space and or weight. That capri set looks interesting, no clue how they hold up.

Very impressed with the vim sets I have used though

I bought the capri sets when I was starting out working on fire trucks which was like...5 years ago or so? Both sae and metric. I've moved into automotive and have been using the metric capris professionally for over a year now, and I work on euro **** so they see tons of use. Very very nice for the price. I'd absolutely reccomend them.

If you look at the links that is exactly what I am comparing.

Buy set of Capri or Tekton or just one of the Snap-On's in the needed size.

I understand. If you only need that one size, get the single. No reason to cary extra sockets when they would just add unnecessary weight in your situation.

I couldn't decide between the three brands so I'm doing the logical thing. Buying all three.… :headscrat

I want to try out the Capri tools so I bought a short and long individual size. After hearing and reading good stuff about Tekton torque wrenches and the fact I don't have any Tekton tools I bought a 1/4" drive torque wrench for low torque applications such as the cam covers on my bike which take the 5mm hex. And so S-O wouldn't feel left out today I got some standard flat blades to make another ratcheting screwdriver.
