Hmmm..... $110 - 120k for 600 sq ft?

My 600 sq ft owes me about $20k and it's a 30 second walk from my back door.

Don't get me wrong, great place if you can afford it!

Just another playground for the obscenely rich. Maybe if I was lucky I could get a job there sweeping floors or polishing cars.

Nice to see these being sold, they've been talking about them going up for years.

I like the garage condo concept.

600 sqft seems a little small. I don't know anything about Detroit but $200/sqft is a expensive even though $100K is within the reach of a lot of people. A big chunk of that price is going toward the membership and association related to the rest of the park.

I agree 600sf is small but there is a bunch of wealthy car lovers in Detroit that would dive into this heads first. One of the best things is the track. Mod your ride and test it without the worry of a 6 point ticket or jail, what is not to love. Boat clubs have had this going on in Michigan for centuries so why not the car lovers. It will be full, trust me.

This location is right on the Dream Cruise route and about 25 miles from Detroit. It is very close to Bloomfield, Birmingham, and more high value property neighborhoods.

Nice to see things moving along but I won't be holding my breath until tangible progress on the buildings is made.

You could but whole city.blocks for that price in Detroit proper.

This!

Come down to my neighborhood in Detroit and buy a whole 2 story 1300SF brick colonial house on a 40x100 corner lot with detached 2 car garage for 6K. Like the neighbor next door just did.

You will need to rehab the house to the tune of 3 to 6 grand because it was scrapped out and needs piping, furnace and water heater.

And you will need to secure the property and stay here 24/7 to protect it.

But still......

If I had the means, (and still lived near there) I'd definitely consider it, just as I would have my own boat service to put my dream 40 foot offshore into the water with an hour's notice. Sadly, neither will ever happen, but I don't begrudge the opportunity to those that can afford it.

"Obscenely rich" isn't an accurate description.

The $120K small condos (600 sqft) are accessible to a LOT of people. For instance, a couple in their 50's with combined income of $100K, kids out of college and primary mortgage paid or almost paid could qualify for a second mortgage in about 20 minutes.

My guess is that demographic describes about 40% of the guys here on GJ.

It seems like an awesome idea. I do not have the means, but I can't wait to check it out when it opens. What the article doesn't tell you: $1200-$2400 Yearly condo association fee. Membership to the Motorsports Club extra and dues have not been established.

The cost to build the track needs to be a factor. That is expensive. Our local Kansas (Kansas City area) garage condo sells for around $80-90 sq ft. Dues are very reasonable. It's just condo's and a common club house.

Connecticut - not sure why though...
My shop is a simmilar idea, there are a few in the area. They call mine garagaminiums. Bassically a 1000+/- sqft space you can do as you like. Most people set it up simmilar to that, but not nearly as refined and nice. More utilitarian, actually do work in kinda place.

Mine has about a 20x8 loft, where I have my office. Works for me, sure as hell didn't cost me 130+k
