I have seen jack stands attached to wheel dollies before, won't comment on how safe that may be though!I suppose if all 4 were tied together with tubing,it might not be such a bad idea...

The weight of the car, and the surface of the floor will determine how easy it will be to move the car on dollies. I can push my Corvair all over the garage on cheap Chinese made wheel dolly's, but I can't put my Cadillac on the same dolly's without them failing from the weight.

I built two 16"x32" flat dollies a while back. Dolly itself is constructed of laminated 1x4 pine. VERY strong, and light enough to toss into the back of the truck, or hang on the wall of the shop.

After killing a few sets of medium duty casters, I finally dropped the coin on some Poly-tech casters. Rated at 750lbs for EACH caster.:bounce:

So each dolly is good for roughly 3k lbs. Two of them could support a car easily. Never thought about using it for that though. :headscrat

Hi Guys,

I built a car dolly out of 2x4s and 2x6s. I started out using pneumatic casters from northern tool and quickly switched to solid casters since the pneumatic could not hold that much weight. In the pic you can see the caster flattened by the weight

Here's a picture of the car on the dolly,

The frame sits on the cross pieces of the dolly. I put in extra bracing becasue i was paranoid.

IF i could re-do it, I would make the dolly shorter. I had to get a couple guys over to help lift the car onto the dolly. Although when I took the car off, I had the engine hoist hold the heavier end of the car. (rear)

Here's some pics of the dolly when I built it

I think i used 2 2x6's , 4 2x4s and misc screws and bolts. Should be under $100.
