Car Floor Pan Expoxy?

Guys Im replacing the floors in my 1950 cadillac. Making the panels from scratch and it has come out pretty good. The problem is that the car was undercoated years and years ago (maybe factory) and certain areas smoke like hell when I go to weld there, not to mention the fear of it catching fire.

I've got them decently welded in, but I want to fill any cracks up with some sort of epoxy. The goal here is to not only weatherproof seams like a seam sealer would, but I'd like it to harden rock hard and help structural rigidity.

Is there a product that I could put in a caulk gun and use for this?

Maybe someone has done this but I wouldn't recommend it. Car floor pans have a bit of give to them, they aren't 100% rigid so I think anything like this will end up cracking over time.

I had to modify the floor of my 57 Cadillac for a different frame and step 1 was scraping all factory sound deadening out and cleaning with mineral spirits.

Horrible job but allowed me to weld in the new sections 100%.

I think what you are looking for is called brushable seam sealer. Eastwood has their brand and also 3M makes a seam sealer. You just use an acid brush to paint it along the seams to seal it before painting.

Ok so a good seam sealer and weld as much as I can I guess?

+1 on the seam sealer. You could use polyurethane construction adhesive which is almost the same thing.

What they said ! Epoxy is too stiff and it will crack and fall out over time.

Weld it in. I had a similar problem with my Camaro, mostly self induced. 20 years ago I used rubberized undercoating on both the topside and bottom side of the floor. Fast forward, I needed to patch most of the floor it was a huge PITA to remove it all and weld in a new floor, but it is done.

Now maybe I do not learn, the floor is now POR15ed top and bottom and rhino lined top and bottom. Hopefully I never have to weld it again!
