Sign writing can be a business expense Rod. Your trailer is a mobile Billboard every time it goes somewhere

You've got that one right mate!!
The rear logo may even be of refective material like road signs (if it ain't tooooo dear :()

I've already spent my fair share of $$ on signs, but it's a 2 way street.
I also happen to make all the steel frames for the local sign writter, I have made jigs and al to speed the process up (he also happens to be a mate) so what I charge him, he charges me etc etc etc.

We all give each other work around here, so I spose even though it is an expence (and a deduction) I've actually just done quite a large job for him only last week :bounce::bounce:................so he'll get the $$ back :wtf:

If you are looking for LED's let me know as I have some very nice ones now. Stop Tails @$40-00 and indicators @$10-00. The Indicators are in the latest issue of ASR and the stop tails will be in the next issue.

Also make sure you comply with ADR's for that trailer as you will now need lights up high on the rear and perhaps the 'DO NOT OVERTAKE TURNING VEHICLE' signs on the back and you will need those if you tow it behind the truck you are building. The only reason I know this as I am reading the ADR's for my fuel trailer that will be classed as a plant trailer. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/vsb1/index.aspx Rod, Have a look at the PDF document.

Been there done that!!
I have the ADR's for trailers thanks.
I have all the lights required & then some
No, I do not need that sign.
My taillights also have super bright reversing lights.
Just a few more reflectors for the sides & I'll be right.

Another up date, but onlu a small one, as AGAIN :wtf: I've been extremely busy, with this comming week to be even worse as I have to prep for my new Agency that I'm about to take on (Air Liquide - Industrial Gases, for your interest Simon :bounce:)

Anyway, I have now finished all the frame work, mounted the fairleed rollers, started painting the frame work (until I ran out, now to wait until more arrives :() and I have now sheeted the rear door frames ready to hang :thumbup:

A little more done today.

One of my workers finally decided to turn up today (I can't complain, he does only work one day a week as he has a farm to run & he spares as much time as he can, so sometimes I don't see him for a few weeks)

Anyway, here ya go.

Photo0628.jpg

As you can see the chequer plate doesn't run all the way down, but as I originally designed the canopy to be removeable , this is where the original trailer is at
(besides, I had already had the plate cut, so now that I reckon the canopy will always stay in place it's just going have to look a little odd:wtf:)
I would prefer to have it go a bit further, but it's just too bad.

A bit more progress.

Back doors hung, tail bases mounted, one roof sheet on & of course "THAT STICKER"
It is made of the same reflective stuff that road signs are, so if you pull up behind me...........you had better dip your lights :bounce::bounce:

Another day in the office :shocking::shocking:
A few more wall & roof sheets on.
Another over size sticker (after the poor sign man stuffed one )
The side logo looks a little lost after beig happy with the rear, but to add extra to fill up some of the "white" space, would just cost far more than the bill is all ready going to be :wtf::wtf:
The tail lights & a few of the clearance lights also fitted.

Still a long way to go, but a pretty productive day none the less ........for a Sunday :(

Again, looking good. I made a start on the fuel trailer today only to find some of the parts I was supplied with are not as they should be  so will have to go back to the supplier later this week.

Thats a ****** mate :wtf:

I to have to re-do some work myself.
The tail lights turned out deeper than planned :( so I will re-do the recess so the lights don't hit the walls when the doors are opened all the way up

Well, kind of 2 things :headscrat
When I worked out how much to recess the lights, I had planned for the hinges to be mounted slightly differently than how they ended up, so the doors ended up being slightly closer to the walls when fully open, plus on top of that I changed the position of the clearance lights, so they ended up touching them :lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

No dramas, I made a bit of time today to changed them (I don't know how, as it was the big day..... up at 3 am.... for the new agency start up, plus some new work coming in) anyway, now the recess is an extra 15mm deeper than before so with the exception of the number plate light now getting in the way (just can't do anything about that) all is good.

A few more smaller sheets also fitted late today, so slowly I'm getting there

This is draging on & I really need it finished, with so much of the little jobs still needed to be done & my worker unable to show for work............I'm on my own...................AGAIN:(:(
(anybody know someone who is honest, isn't affraid of a bit of work, while having a bit of fun doing a variety of jobs & building some cool cars ??)

Sounds like you have it worked out now. These things do happen with parts. Pity I am not closer to you.....:( as things have slowed here but still plenty for me to do.

Here in the States that sign you have on the trailer makes you commercial. Now you would have to abide by all the CDL laws.

Lucky for Rocket and I that we are not in the USA.....Then sometimes I wish I was.

Out of interest, What are your CDL laws??

We have to have a sign on a business approved (though there is no cost involved) The local government need to know it doesn't go against their laws as well as just being a general eyesore.

It was mentioned to me about the rear sign being made from reflective material that it could be questionable, but I was unable to find anything that prohibits me from using it.

I own my logo & I can assure you here in Oz, no one can do anything about trailers, as plenty are used & just parked as advertising (so long as they are rego'd) I have even seem semi trailers parked (with out the prime mover) just for advertising :wtf:
In Oz, most of the trucks here have full aided advertising

Simon,
If things are that slow, it's only a few hours drive............well, maybe a few more than just a few..........but you'd be more than welcome to head over if you need something to do. I have HEAPS on, with even a job from the local Holden dealership to do some work on a late model Captiva next week :shocking::wtf::wtf::headscrat
(you feel like working on a W11 Willys Jeep? Got one of them in for a turn key resto to start shortly)
Maybe the shop truck??????

It is the drive that would be the killer. That to me would be wasted time.
I have plenty to keep me busy. If you where closer I would be there.

Well,
I'll waste some time and be over for the swap again soon, so at least I can say g'day again.........................................................(if I can remember what you look like :lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti)

I haven't investigated them for much. I do know that if you are towing a trailer that has a race car exposed on it or has markings on the outside of the trailer you can be ticketed. It is a stretch but any of these markings can be taken as a sponsor and having a sponsor you must be getting money from them so you become commercial. At this point if you are towing your car across the street you need a CDL to do it with any type of sponsorship.
I am diabetic and on insulin so I can not get a CDL at all. But if I have a semi in my name and am hauling my own personal items I dont need the CDL because I am exempt per 390.3f3 of the FMCSA regulations. §390.3 General applicability.

I keep a copy of this with me at all times. And the most recent posting of that book.

Hey Rod I think we are lucky here not to have to comply with that type of law / ruling here.

I usually go down the street for the Friday night un-offical Rod Show, so I may see you there.

YES, a couple of Rat Rod style cars, but I'm not into them either.

I'd agree.
Why should I have to pay anyone to use my own logo :headscrat:headscrat

OK!
Back to the thread :lol_hitti

I've nearlly finished the sheeting of the trailer :bounce:
**(Geez, it seems to have taken for ever :(:()**
A couple of small sheets on the roof to go & the last of the chequer plate at the front & I can get stuck into mounting the rest of the lights & do the wiring.
At least I can use it then.........even if the door seals haven't been done.

My sign wirtter has nearlly finished (it would have been done if I hadn't gone away for the long weekend, but when your told by SWMBO, ya just have to do it :lol_hitti:lol_hitti

A good thought Simon.
I had another huge day today (some 13 1/2 hours :wtf:) but I did managed a little more on the trailer.
Sorry no pic's, I was pushing it as it was & I "did" get introuble for being extra late home for dinner :(

All the sheeting is all done, bar the little door in the chequer plate to access the winch rollers and to create access if I want to cart long material like lenghts of steel.

I got all the lights on tonight. Now just to wire them :wtf:
I some how managed to get the rear lights to clear the side clearance lights when the doors are open (must have been a fluke :lol_hitti)
I still have the inside lights to go, plus all the other stuff I've mentioned before like the door seals etc.

Off to the big smoke again tomorrow (gee how the months fly :headscrat)
So no work on it until the weekend now, as I have a special job booked in for Thursday & Friday & it's the local show on Saturday.

All the signs where also finished today. The little extra ones will have to wait until I can find some more $$ to pay for them :(

I will post some pic's as soon as I can.

I found some neat Flouro lights some time ago and they have a cigarette lighter plug on them, magnetic base and screw on base as well as a hook. I have one in my Teardrop camper and have another to use in the sleeper of the F4. let me know if you would like more info on them.

Well,
After a job that was pushed on me (that I didn't really want) & to do asap.
It was booked in for today & tomorrow.......................... IT DIDN'T TURN UP :headscrat:headscrat :wtf::wtf::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Anyway,
I spent the day wiring the trailer.
ALL done & all works  (even the pretty blue LED's :bounce:)

I will post some pic's when I can finally get it out side, but with still lots of little jobs to do :( I just hope it is soon

Blue LED's :wtf: BLUE LED's :headscrat Why do you have blue LED's Red, Amber or White should be all you require. Is this you DAREing to be different ???

Tee Hee :bounce::bounce: (I thought that one would get ya )
Put it this way............you'll know it's me :shocking: 9 blue LED's on the roof & the tenth one under at the front, mainly for a bit of light should I need to get to the spare or winch at night (they come in packs of 10)
As my local copper said to me yesterday, they aren't ADR compliant :headscrat but they don't have to be as I'm legal with the rest  of course he was geeing me up anyway :lol_hitti
I neglected to get his opinion of the rear logo being a refective one :wtf:

Yep!!
White for front facing clearence lights (2 a side as the trailer is wider & higher in the middle, so strictly speaking ones just at the front didn't quite cut it.
Red/Amber for the row of side lights. Red to the rear of course & Amber to the front.
Also Red up top to the rear for clearence lights.

As for the job not showing well I have to agree I just hate it when that happens.
Yep! I wasn't very happy, but it has feed up some time as I shift some other jobs around to cater for it.
Now I have trimmed off all the excess glue, added sealant & fitted some pinch weld door seals. Another dyas labour into it :(:(

Ooooooooooo and I put the other new number plate on :beer:

Your blue LED's sound similar to a fellow that placed a red and blue reflector on his roof rack facing backwards. :lol_hitti

Tee Hee!

FINALLY..............It sees some daylight :bounce::bounce:

Photo0653.jpg

Photo0652.jpg

I still want to add some extra strengthening to the draw bar & I still have the inside lights to go as I do the extra battery & wiring, but that will have to wait a few weeks while I "try" to catch up on some other work.

I'm not totally happy with the sway bars I have, but another $650 for a new set is $$ I just can't afford at the moment.
It was very windy & wet today, so a trail towing in that proved it isn't too bad............well, unloaded anyway.
A couple of leaks where found & fixed.

Looking good Rod. I can help you with interior lights if you need.

Thanks mate, but sorry, I bought the interior lights when I got the outside ones.
If I had realised you did anything I needed, I would have certainly bought them from you. (I honestly didn't see what I needed, but maybe you have others that aren't listed :wtf:)

I've already been using it to take a batch of engine trollys for painting & I delivered some sign frames that I made to my sig man today :bounce::bounce: (I gotta unhook it now, as the missus is a bit towie about not having a car............the roof isn't on my Rod, so it's alreaight for me to get wet.........but not her :wtf::wtf::shocking::lol_hitti
(I'd better get stuck into the shop truck soon :headscrat)
