Car lift suggestions solicited

I'm thinking about installing a car lift in my new garage build.
Basically it will be used primarily to double storage in a bay by parking a car underneath the one on the lift.
Do you recommend a 2 post or 4 post lift? I like the idea of the pressure being off the tires with a 2 post but have some concerns about leaking fluids from the auto above.
I know there are a many brands as there are automobiles but I'd like to know what you bought after your research and why please.
Thanks in advance!

For what you're describing, a 4-post lift is (pretty much) the way to go. You talk about taking pressure off the tires -- but that's the only part of the car designed to bear its weight for long periods of time. Suspending the car by the chassis for years is not going to destroy a car, but it's going to be putting a lot of pressure on the chassis in a way that is not doing it any favors.

OK, I'll be the first in with "do a search." Lotsa information in the forums about this.

Bottom line, though, is:

Mainly car storage-- 4 post lift
Mainly working on cars-- 2 post lift
Don't want to drill anchors-- 4 post lift

Other variables are ceiling height, budget, need portability or not, etc., etc., etc.

Many 4 posts come equipped with drip trays. If not, they are available as an option.

Once you decide what type of lift is best you can search on the manufacturer and model name. Almost all the popular lifts have been reviewed on this site at one time or another.

Good luck!

I have a 2 post lift and like it but I wish I had the room for a 4 post lift. As I could have utilized the space.

Thanks guys. I'll pass on the popcorn for now and believe that the basic consensus is to go with the 4 post lift if the primary purpose is to park underneath.
I appreciate the posts and help.

From what you described I agree it sounds like a 4 post would work best.
