car lifts outdoors?

anyone have a 2 post lift outside?
I don't have the space to put a lift in the garage ( very small )
but I have room to put one next to it.
does anyone have experience with a lift kept outside?
Iam in So. Ca. so my winters are no big deal.

When I visited my parents in Florida a couple of years ago, it seemed to be the norm to have one if not two lifts outside, only one inside, I assume for rainy day work. I would tell the manufacturer that you are planning on an outside application, then if they don't show any concern you should be fine. Would think direct sunlight or weathering of controls would be the main problem and the manufacturer would know best.

I know a smallish performance shop here that got started with the guy working in his backyard. He didn't have a garage just a pad with a lift on it!

I also have a friend who managed a national undercar chain shop for awhile that had one outside lift. It was fully operational but they hardly ever used it unless they were just really busy on a saturday and had an extra tech to man it.

There are lots of outside lifts around here. Some put a canopy over them to keep the sun and the rain out.

I've seen some in NJ, too. They all seem to cover the power unit with a plastic bag.

There's a muffler shop in Stevens point, WI that has two outside lifts...

I would think as long as the cylinders stayed down and unexposed in the weather, you would be fine. And of course some sort of cover for the control panel. Probably doesn't require much though.

I have an outdoor lift at my shop. Although it is a center post floor mounted unit, it has lived outside for at least 20 years.

I order a lift last week. I have to put it outside due to concrete finisher adding too much water to concrete inside. But there is proberly twenty outside within five miles from house. As of this time I have no problem with it going outside.

A few posts, trusses, sheeting and shingles and in a few years it can be inside and still in the same place!

A local guy rented a long deserted Studebaker dealership. (way out in the country??) He found a pipe sticking through the wall. A little digging outside and he discovered a lift. He hooked the air up to the pipe and up went the lift. There is no telling how long the lift sat dormant.
