I was a member was of a car club. The club had garage tours and I was picked as the next victim. I had just bought a nice 1948 Mercury 114X. I had to endure an hour of WTF from a bunch of mean spirited critics.
One of the other charter members asked to borrow my engine hoist, for a few days.
A month later I went to his home to get my engine hoist back. It was not there. He had lent it out to another person. I told him, "I want it back NOW." He said that may not be possible, so I started to empty his SnapOn tools into my truck along with anything else of value. It took less than a minute when he told me the engine hoist will be here is 10 minutes. My hoist arrived and we unloaded his tools.
I wrote the book on being a FAH, when necessary.
His final words were, "Now what am going to do?" I had an answer, but kept it in reserve for next time.
I never lend anything. This was over 43 years ago.
The last time I saw this rare car, it was at a swap meet. The car was butchered and ended up as parts.
