So, I was at a recent car show and of course you usually find a tool guy!

....I was wondering how many of us can resist the temptation to buy something?

I mean, how often do you find a ratchet that is 1/4" and 3/8" drive????

...I didn't buy the ratchet but I did get a long reach grabber tool and a couple drill accessories, a blow gun too.
So, what do you usually buy from these guys?

The guy who I usually see has like every kind of channellock and vise grip, so I usually end up stocking up on pliers.

There's 3 guys like that when I go to Carlisle, it's nice to pickup those simple tools that shipping would eat you up on

Depends if its decent stuff, or just some guy selling harbor freight ****.

And I know for a fact Wright sells an open gear 1/4 & 3/8 combo ratchet...model 3482.

The best thing at Carlisle is those hot sausages. Others must agree judging by the length of the line. It is good for those little accessories and you can get lucky and find a quality tool once in a while but for the most part I find those guys to be sort of traveling Harbor Freights. I can get the same stuff at HF and save a 2 1/2 hr. drive. There other things at Carlisle that justify the trip and I do enjoy going. There is one guy that seems to concentrate on just name brand sets of sockets and wrenches, that are a good deal.
I always get a handful of dental picks. Hopefully they've been cleaned...

I bought one of those from a tool guy at a swap meet, and I probably use it more than anything else. :) With the short handle you can't get a lot of torque on it, but since it's two ratchets in one they're really handy to throw in a tool bag when you're working somewhere away from the shop.

Picked up the dual head at AutoZone a few years ago. Took my cut off wheel and removed the 1/4" side and used cold bluing to refinish. Great ratchet! I found them on Amazon and got my son one too.

I usually spend some time picking up small stuff, shop supplies although vendors can have some specialty tools. I know I picked up my Cleco set from car show vendor in Mn.

I always see them but usually talk myself out of buying anything because I'll have to lug it around for the remainder of the show.

At the E-Town/Raceway Park Bi-Annual swap meets likely the same guy. I always grab stuff. Last time was some channel lock stuff and wilde pliers. Honestly the prices arent really that good vs ebay, amazon or even the store. Maybe 1-5 bucks off tops.

A few years ago I went to the Bloomington Gold Corvette show in St. Charles, IL, and there was a guy there with a ton of USA made Craftsman stuff. His prices were pretty good and I ended up filling in a lot of holes in my socket sets.

The photo posted by the OP looks like a lot of low end Asian made tools. When I see a guy selling that kind of stuff, I take a quick look but usually keep walking.

I go to the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa every August and that looks like the same guys setup. Husband and wife team. They go by Stars and Stripes tools. They have some of the real cheap stuff and also some good stuff. Great to deal with and if something does not work out, I just bring it back the next year and no questions asked. Lot of things that you don't see just anywhere.

You see those guys pulling all kinds of wagons. I'm getting old. I think I am ready to rent one of those mobility scooters.

I have had vendors tell me that they are not doing Englishtown any more. They say Carlisle is growing but Englishtown is shrinking. A real shame; I am close to Englishtown.I have noticed certain vendors that I bought from are no longer there.

I worked Carlisle for a few years with a vendor friend selling paint stripper, jump packs and extinguishers in the early 2000's- it was consistent, but not really exploding. Good to hear it's growing.

The guys going on about the food aren't wrong- we used to eat very well on those weekends!
