I wanted to build my own car trailer but make it interesting. I sculpted in a set of 59 Caddy tail lights and frenched in the marker lights in the wedge tail.

Hi, I bought a compressor from Harbour Freight which was a disappointment. I returned it and was issued a credit. As the components came on sale I collected what I needed. The steel I bought new around $600.00 in total. You could probably buy a used one cheaper. I just wanted to build something different I guess. Probably close to 3 grand with paint and wiring.

I always thought it would be neet to have a way to plug the hauled cars tail lights into the trailers lights. Hit the brakes or turn signals and everthing lights up.

True, it was built just for my old Mustang ( I have 2 ). I wanted it to fit in my garage so its not very long. 3/16 x 2"x 3" square tubing. 3/16 checker plate wit 3" angle iron.

Good looking trailer with quality work. I think the open center will be nice for working on the car but I think you will find you at least want removable center pieces to haul all the other things that come up besides cars. I would take a trailer that sits a little high and you can open the door on the car any day over a low trailer with tall fenders that prevent the door from opening. As far as being too light that is a tough call. If you won't haul anything much heavier than the Mustangs why tow all the dead weight around an waist the money on extra steel (especially if towed with a half ton truck). Since I started pulling with diesels, I have found it is hard to have a trailer that is too big. I will not own a car trailer with 3500# axles because I have proven numerous times I lack the capacity to not over load it. I now have a 24' open trailer with 6000# axles and a 24' enclosed with 5400# axles and on occasion I am still pushing the limits of the trailers. I also find a winch is a must have. My open trailer has an old manual winch with lock and brake that was used in WWII I was told to lift bombs and my enclosed has an electric winch that is nice but I do like the manual one better.

On a side note, it looks like you have access to some pretty impressive equipment.

Hi, yes thank you I have a small machine shop of my own. I made two halves and took it home and finished it in my garage. No winch, but yes that would be nice. Ive paid U-Haul so much money I decided to make my own. I painted it in my driveway with base clear. True its not heavy duty at all, ( I have an equipment trailer for moving machine shop equipment ). This one is okay for my needs.

I like it, no reason to have a big trailer for a mustang. I am not fond of the caddy bullets for a mustang trailer, I would have used mustang tails. I agree with having an insert so you could use it for other stuff. Bulky stuff that isn't heavy enough for the equip. trailer

Dude, did you call the cops yet? I am so stealing the conduit for fender lights idea!!!!!. I love your trailer. I also couldn't handle the standard trailer look. I frenched the tail lights and plate into the rear of my 5x10 trailer. I hope to finish everything but the gate this next winter. then start building/modifing a car trailer after that. Consider yourself robbed.

I was going to do similar with '39 blue dots, but our "Road Nazi's" require the taillights to be mounted at the most rearward position.
[ so both sides can be seen at a 45 degree angle from following vehicles ]

Just curious, what is the length of the deck? and the weight of the trailer?

Most of the haulers I found where basically steel boxes so I wanted something a little different. Please feel free to liberate any designs that you find helpful. I will be building another trailer but another utility as someone stole my other right out of my driveway : (
