I still have a 5 gallon can of Berryman chem dip that still works really good, though the odor is potent. Not really sure if what is out there today is still as good. I've read people have been using Simple Green, but care must be taken because it can tarnish the aluminum housing of a carb.

I can still smell the can of Berryman that it took forever to get rid of two years ago. I got a steal of a deal on a parts washer, but it came with the carb cleaner or no deal.

Carbs go into an ultrasonic cleaner now for my use. It's way faster and every bit as good of a cleaner, if not better, than the nasty stuff I used to use.

I usually use just carb cleaner in a can and it works fine. Eventually I'm going to be getting an ultrasonic cleaner since I have heard good things about them.

What are you using in the ultrasonic?

Pine Sol. I did a set of bike carbs a few months ago and every brass bit came out like bleached bone. I would not have believed it. Doesn't hurt the rubber or tarnish the aluminum.

pine sol or a ultrasonic cleaner works damn good. i have yamaha carb dip, stuff that they dont sell anymore cause its probably harmful and causes cancer just by looking at it lol.

a can of carb clean works pretty good unless stuff is very gummed up

I have only used water and a little dish soap in my ultrasonic cleaner. When you guys use Pine Sol or Simple Green, do you mix it with water or straight cleaner? If you mix it with water, how strong of a mix?

I dilute mine. I don't measure anything just fill the tank with water till it covers what I'm cleaning then pour in the SG until it looks right to me.

This is a great question. Having used all of my old recipe Yamalube I don't know what is good anymore. They have changed the formulation on seemingly everything.

Water and dish detergent. If I have small carb parts, I put them in a jar of gasoline, put a baggie over the top and put the lid on and drop it in the water. Works awesome.

Pine sol in an ultrasonic cleaner. Much better and faster than soaking it in the old chemicals.

Harbor Freight ultrasonic - i put them in a small peanut butter jar full of gasoline and put the jar in the water. Think I saw that on Steve's small engine saloon. Works great.

The jar of parts is a good trick. I failed to mention that one.

Put plain water in your ultrasonic cleaner and whatever cleaning solution and your parts in a jar and submerge the jar in the water. The ultrasonic waves will penetrate the jar and you don't have to clean gunk out of the machine every time you want to put it away.

The double boiler method is a great option but you will get better cavitation with a small amount of soap in the tank. The soap lowers the surface tension of the water and that enables the sonics to penetrate much better and also helps a bunch to drive the gas out.

Berryman. Less than 10 years old so not as strong as the old stuff. It still works but it might take 2 or more days.
