Do any of you use Carbide Burrs and if so, where do source them from and do you prefer Single or Double cut pattern. Any particular brand that seems to be better than others.

all the ones i have in my box fell in other guys pockets as they were leaving work from the mill/machine shop/etc.

I couldnt see paying full pop for them--expensive little buggers.

I have quite a few, use them for manifold porting and gasket matching. As for cut and angle/style, depends on the type of metal/material you are using them with.

"Pferd" brand, double cut for fast stock removal and less clogging

I use a lot of Atrax double cut burrs at work. The only time I use a single cut burr is when working with aluminum.

I mostly work with Aluminum and use the Single Cut bad boys. They are spendy though. I have a Cylinder, Cone, Ball, and a few others. On the Aluminum if you keep the speed down on the Die Grinder they really remove some material. Heat up the Burr and the metal just clogs and sticks. I clean them out with a 90° Pick Set.

I have 2 sets of Matco double cut ones. 1 short set and one long set. They were pricey but my dealer has warrantied a couple worn ones, no questions asked so after that the price doesn't seem so bad.

Thanks guys, my older MAC burrs have had it and no MAC dealer around to warrant them. Going with Matco this time. Good warranty and I have a great dealer.

Single vs double will depend on the metal being cut. For example, Aluminum requires single cut while steel benefits from double cut.

If you are grinding into aluminum or brass, and having clogging issues, you are likely doing one (or both) of 2 things wrong. Wrong burr (highly likely) and lack of lube (highly likely)

It is possible to use a conventional carbide with more "tpi", but not the most appropriate many times. Add some wax, antiseize, grease, or dupont teflon drylube to the burr. Some lubes are messier than others, some lubes last longer than others. Finishes may also vary. Do your own experimenting.
