Since there was some interest in beam thickness etc... when I posted in the new tools thread I figured they deserve their own. The finish is perfect as always with Carlyle, as far as strength :dunno: We'll see after they've earned me some money...

Next to an SOEX series Snap On wrench

Comparing the width of the box end against the same Snap On wrench and then a MAC USA socket.

Ruger_556,

Thanks for creating this thread! Those wrenches are indeed drool worthy!

Do you live and work in the Rust Belt? Please update this thread once you use those wrenches for a while at your job.

1) I would be interested in learning about how well the implementation of the broaching of the box end and its effectiveness in removing rusty fasteners.

2) In addition, I would be interested in learning about how well the chamfering on the outside of the box end gives it an advantage versus its competition in removing rusted fasteners.

Thanks,

Dave

Those wrenches look outstanding!!

Did you have to get the 13 x 15 mm wrench separately because, I don't see a spot for it in the tray? :dunno:

No, Washington State about 20 minutes from the Canadian border. We do have some fleets that haul to Alaska though so I get to see my fair share of rusted fasteners (3/4 impact and a torch are your best friend). I'll update the thread when I've really put them to work for awhile.

Yeah, I bought it individually. Not sure why they don't just include it in the set :dunno:

Thanks, Ruger. Exactly the information I was looking for in the other thread. I'm just torn between these 'cause they look so good or the Gearwrenches to have the ratcheting end. I really don't need either. Oh, wait! :shocking: What am I saying? This is Garage Journal! Of course I need them!

Didn't notice how much thicker they are in my hands. Regardless, great wrenches & sockets being produced under the Carlyle name.

The standard/ratcheting versions make these types of long DBE obsolete. They look nice and take up less space in the box but that's about it.

I use breaker bars too... I guess I'm behind the times here

They look just like the Genius/Toptul wrenches, which also exclude the 13x15mm in the set. I have the Genius, Toptul, and the Gearwrench XL ratcheting set, and find myself using the Gearwrench more than anything else.

$200 will get you the 10pc set of GW 120XP double box flex wrenches. Once you have a set you'll rarely touch the above style (save the larger sizes that the GW doesn't cover). I have the Matco branded Kabo ones and its one of my favorite tools.

OT but are the Gearwrench ones still made in Taiwan or have they moved to China like GW combination ratcheting wrenches?

Couple different sizes in the set and the wrenches are different lengths if you match the sizes up on NAPA's website. Might be the same oem but I don't think they're a direct rebadge... Those are well reviewed though

Correct, not 100% rebadge but definitely made in the same factory.

So being zero degree are these zero audible feedback, ie silent or no ratcheting sound? Not bashing them, just asking!!

It depends on how high from the floor you drop them from.

They're fixed boxed end wrenches so, there's nothing to ratchet. the zero degree refers to the boxed end being inline with the beam of the wrench, no offset but, you probably knew that. :dunno:

those wrenches look amazing.. actually, ALL of the Carlyle stuff does, and at a very reasonable price too for a professional OR anyone that wanted premium tools.. really suprised Carlyle does not have a bigger following on this board, on par with that of Milwaukee.. i really think Carlyle would be an attractive brand for me if i were i mechanic.

Carlyle doesn't really make anything they just buy random Taiwan made stuff and put their name on it. You can buy the same items for less from the Taiwanese companies that have US presence. Only reason to buy it is warranty at the stores, but i would not pay 2x for just the warranty.

Umm, that's known Kaane.
The brand has been likend to Craftsman, Matco, some Mac, and Cornwell. They're just sourcing from the Apex pool, getting good quality products.

I really want to pick some Carlyle up. I have a list of ratchets and sockets from Napa but my tool budget gets spent on stuff I can buy through work while I have a discount.

While true, there are a lot of tools only sold through Carlyle (as with most all tool companies, nothing new there). Many Carlyle tools you either can't buy the exact tool from someone else (as in the same, not just similar) or you're going to pay more.

I don't particularly care. Plus I have a commercial account and don't pay that much
