Is the Carlyle tool line made by Gearwrench?

Are GearWrench and Craftsman ratcheting wrenches the same thing?

There is a difference in my older Craftsman ratcheting wrenches, and my year or so old Gearwrenches. I don't have a clue about Craftsman's current offerings.

No and maybe No.

Most of Carlyle tools are made by Kabo in Taiwan.

It depends on which craftsman ratcheting wrenches you speak of. Craftsman had some that were US made. Now they have mostly PRC made ratcheting wrenches that aren't made by Gearwrench.

Thanks. I'm am thinking of buying the reversible ratcheting Carlyle wrenches in the NAPA real deal catalog.

Just making sure I wasn't paying more for the same thing.

Those are definitely not gearwrench. Those also have 6 point ratcheting boxed ends and they aren't very long, more of a standard length if there is such a thing..

You can get the GW much cheaper and will work just as well. I don't have much experience with the Carlyle/Napa brand, but personally think they're a bit over priced. Just my .02

Yes. Here's an example. The 8 piece sae Carlyle is $149. Here's an 8 piece sae GW on sale for $45 from Northern Tool. The 8 piece metric is even cheaper. Matter of fact, all GW is on sale at Northen Tool right now. I bought the 4 piece jumbo metric set a few weeks ago for much cheaper than anywhere else I've ever seen.

I've never used the Carlyle ratchet wrenches, but have tons and tons of Gearwrench and I've only ever had to replace one wrench because it was broke when I purchased it. Whats interesting is the GW is 72 tooth and the Carlyle 90, but there is only 1 degree difference in arc swing.

Edit - I didn't even notice the GW ratchet wrenches on the next page of the real deals. I was just saying you could get them much cheaper in general. If you are willing to spend the cash, I'd buy a set with the spline box end. I have the Proto and Matco ratchet wrenches with spline box end that grip really well and accept any fastener. Its really a nice feature. I'd take that over the 6 point box end of the Carlyle any day. The only deal better in the Real Deals is the 5 piece standard ratchet wrench set. Their's are $20 compare to NT at $25-30. Northern Tool also has coupon/promo codes, but can't remember if they can be used with the sale items. Its worth trying though....

Edit Again - Yes the coupon codes do work. However, I just checked eBay and found the sae reversible set for even less than Northern Tool on sale with coupon code. Unless you can pick up in store, eBay is cheaper by about $5.

Not to be off-topic here, but didn't GearWrench recently shift their wrench production focus to PRC, which could have in turn been the reasons why the prices recently dropped?

Welcome to GJ and where did you get that?

Probably eBay. I got both metric and sae from Sears on sale for $39 a while back.

Ironically, Dewalt has an Anti-Slip Design and used to be available for $30 to $35. Now its $99 on Sears.com :shocking:

Gearwrench reversibles are 29.99 at advance auto. Pair that with a $5 speed perks coupon you are out the door for $25 for a nice set of ratcheting wrenches.

I just bought my buddy a set for giving me some free furniture

I think I did a google search for the Dewalt reversible ratcheting wrenches and found them for $40+ shipping. I recently picked up the Cman Max Access long panel wrenches with the anti-slip type open end. They were $20 at the outlet store.

I just picked up the DeWalt 10pcs set for $45 shipped. Very happy with them

Same here... very, very nice for the money. Wish they had more options... as they only have offset combos (no flex or straight or double box, etc...).

I'd compare them to older GW wrenches, whereas the new Chinese ones are bulkier. I got them on-sale from Sears Outlet online $42 shipped.

It's amazing how different those box ends are. The channellock is super thin. How is it?

They are basically identical to the HF Pittsburgh wrenches.. At the time I could only find the channellock in sae ( they were like $14 in SAMs club I think). So I got the HF for metric.. Then I wound up buying flex head gearwrenchs, then I saw the husky on clearance for like $8 a set.. Then I found the dewalts on sale for $39...

Do yourselves a favor if anyone needs / wants a set.. Use the gearwrench deal and get it over with.. I have like 4 or 5 different sets and they hardly get used, if ever.. the Gearwrench is a good price for a full set that is reversible and not a 0 degree offset.. it's worth the money IMO. that, or buy both Dewalt sets for like $100 of eBay if you can live without having the 1/3 you won't get compared to other Gearwrench deal.

I found the non ratcheting Dewalt wrenches on sale also and bought those as well. Those 10 piece sets have different sizes then the ratcheting versions..
