Carpet Tile

Has anyone used the carpet tile squares? I'm looking for a cheap covering for an office area in my shop that is bare concrete. I have about 120 sq/ft to cover and just want something to keep the cold floor at bay. Are these things worth a damn or do the corners come up every time you look at them crooked?

Don't waste your money.....we tried it....biggest issue, dirt gets in between the tiles....then works it's way under the carpet square...which causes the adhesive to loose it's stick...and they start moving/coming up.

That's what they have in my recently renovated on campus apartment building. It's stood up to 4 years of college student abuse and still looks like new.

Carpet tiles are the only flooring I'll put in a basement; when wet, simply hang them up to dry...can't do that with carpet. Just be sure to install them square and tight.

We tried it in a rental house. With the cheap stuff you seem to get what you pay for... I agree with the post that the edges of each tile are the issue. BLT makes a levant flooring that is inexpensive and good for offices. That said a good cheap commercial glue down may just be the way to go.

I put them in the basement about 3 years ago over some old tile, still looks good and I haven't had any tiles or corners come up. I kept a dozen or so extra tiles just in case but haven't used them yet. The adhesive didn't feel super strong to me when I was laying them down but it works. I forget what brand they were offhand, but I got them from Menards and they had a brown or dark grey color to pick from.

Have you thought about cutting a fabric mat like this to fit and gluing it down? It might be easier....

We sell the Drymate Garage Floor Mat product as well. I did not suggest it here because it is not what the customer was asking about. The Drymate product is a decent product and it has been used in basements. For me though it is still something you put under a car to absorb oil, water, etc. Not a decorative flooring.

We have carpet tiles on the floor of our local Best Buy. They are holding up just fine. I talked to the manager there and he said in the 4 years the store has been open, they have yet to replace any of them. They said there are only a couple of spots with problems and that it only occurred from dragging fixtures across the floor. So I guess it depends on the quality and how you install them.

Check out your local ReStore, or check with some of the companies that supply uniforms and pick up a few of the 3' x 10' rubber backed throwrugs that you see in businesses. I use them in both garages and on our back porch. When they get dirty, I just get the powerwasher out and blast them clean. I've had some of mine maybe 10 years now, powerwash them on a farly regular basis, and they are still as good as when I first got them.

Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback. I think I'm just going to get an $80 12x8' rug from Lowes for now and figure out something more permanent later when I have the funds to apply to it. I think the cheap carpet tiles that fit my current budget would just create a lot of frustration.
