Hi Everyone,
I will be converting a 44 by 20 carport into a garage. The structure has a very nice thick concrete pad but what sits on top of it is not ideal for my intentions.
Currently there are engineered trusses at about 8 feet tall. I would like to take half the garage and extend the pad out 10 feet and dormer the section so that I may add a 2 post lift and so my f150 will fit in a spot. the other section would stay at 20 feet deep and house my motorcycle and car and workshop. I get into a lot of projects both wood and metal.
I am concerned that I will be cramped in the area that the lift is in with just 30 feet of depth and having to place the lift 2/3rd into the space to gain the height of the dormer. I am also concerned that I will not have enough room to walk around the car in the 20 foot section.
My questions:
Am I asking too much from this space?
Is 30 feet a workable depth with a lift?
Would an architect typically spec out the trusses or how would that be done?
Also, is a 100amp service enough? I will be working alone but I have a miller 211, large compressor and the lift, plus a mini split AC as the big draw items?
Thanks so much - I love this site
