As a temporary garage (3-5 years) Im thinking of buying a car port and converting it to a garage.

My plan
Build a nice cement foundation. I want to have a nice steel building someday so I want something nice for that in 5 years.

Get a car port and anchor it to the foundation.

The sides seem very easy to inclose but the front where I want a door I am not sure.

I want something 24x30. Or bigger if possible.

I need a man door (might already have) and just a simple roll up door. But I am not sure how strong these can be and if I would need to wood frame the interior.

I was hoping to leave it as easy to take down as possible so I can move it.

Maybe I just didn't search good enough but I saw nothing in the build section

Is this what you're talking about?
They also have garages.

My brother-in-law put one up & enclosed it with siding, a man door and garage door. He also ran electric for the door opener & lights.
I don't have pictures but I should be able to get some this weekend.

have you checked into the price??? around these parts they can build em like you want and the price isn't to bad, it might be cheaper just to order it like you want than having to finish it off yourself

they seem to vary a lot. Anywhere from $4k to $8k depending on company

Im thinking of going the shipping countainer route....

One thing about using shipping containers, if you can find a refer unit that is insulated.

I have a 40' refer unit, it has 6" of insulation on sides and top and when its 90 degrees in the summer inside the container its only 60, very nice.

I did research before buying the one I have. The regular non-insulated ones sweat so bad that everything inside if its metal could very well get rusty. The non-insulated ones get very hot in summer and very cold in winter, not so good if you want a little workshop.

Now I'm in Oregon, we have lots of moisture so my situation may not apply to you guys in Arizona or Texas but it still seems like something to consider.

One thing that is bad about my insulated container, because it is insulated it is a little narrower inside and just a little shorter as well inside. By a few inches in each direction, not a big deal to me.

My insulated container does have nice bright Stainless steel walls all around and a bright white ceiling. Makes it very easy to clean, and a few lights do a good job on the entire container.

If you have a refer unit you can control the temp in there easily year round!

Mm
