Hey Carp! What's your latest update? Is that insulation doing a good job? I just found 6 rolls (4'x125') for $325...think I'm going to scoop that up and do the walls and ceiling.

Re: Carp's Backyard 30'x30' Shop Build

No progress since the last post. Cold, busy week. Hope to get out there today and get outlet boxes mounted and conduit run.

The reflectix insulation does a good job of reflecting heat. On warm days, you can feel the heat pouring in off the walls, but the roof is cooler. Not sure if I'll put what I have left on the "sunniest" walls or not.

I haven't noticed that it does much to raise the R value of the shop. It might be the insulation, or it might be the air gaps in the corners behind the outer trim, or the open peak, or the doors. I think I'll be fine from here on out this year, but I'll be keeping an eye out for the foam panels or commercial vinyl backed insulation before next winter for the walls.

I'm thinking of spray can insulation for those corner trim openings, etc...then Reflectix with foam panels. Finished my electric in the garage, now just gotta get power to it!

Re: Carp's Backyard 30'x30' Shop Build

Finally got some time in the shop the last few days. Got the outlets up on two of the walls. Decided to change my original plan and put the two side walls on one circuit, and the back wall and power reel on another. Looks like it saved me at least 100' of conduit runs and wires to run.

Also decided to run my wire in the flexible conduit between boxes, in the corrugated metal, using the metal studs to secure it. Turns out it wasn't stiff enough, so I got some extra wide gorilla tape to hold it in the groove.

Should be wiring up the last wall and load center before next weekend.

Quick question for those who had to have inspections, do you need to leave outlets open for them to see the connections?

Seems like after I got the power all sorted out, I've been swamped with projects.

First of all kids, when stripping 2/0 wire with a razor knife make sure that your finger is out of the way.

Once that was healed, had to bring in the Land Cruiser for a cooling system repair. I work slow (as you can tell by this thread), so I had to be creative to keep that clicking along while moving the shop build along.

Picked up some Penco shelves for the wall, killer deal. Loaded them on the daily driver to get them home.

Still have one more section to put up and more shelves to install, but these things are strong and awesome!

Got some cool new shop items from the employee sale at work on the cheap:

Then dad showed up with a workbench [emoji106] :

Then summer happened and the Land Cruiser project slowed me down on shop progress.

Fast forward to this fall and I couldn't wait anymore, had to add another toy to the shop:

The place was a wreck, so once I got the Cruiser out of the shop and running, I cleaned up and rearranged the shop to start on the daily driver and flip car.

Proved it is a 3 car garage[emoji12] :

This is the wife's future corner. Going to give her a little crafting area so we can at least be in the same place some nights.

It's been great having a place to do things at night. I love this shop. Still have lots to do to make it complete, but it's what I've needed for a long time.
