carquest switched its tool line over to powerbuilt tools. the company has also pushed ahead and advanced some of its tools like 72 tooth ratchets very very close to snap on in size and dimensions (will take photos soon)

carquest is also unveiling a rental tool program which you can rent a box of tools for a specific job you are trying to accomplish like a fuel disconnect kit or a axle pulling slide hammer set......

some good looking tools

here are pictures of the ratchets compared to snap on. snap on ratchet models: t72 and f80 both date code 2010.

Schucks used to carry that brand as well as the rental tool kits. I have some of the hand tools as well as a couple kits.
I think they are decent tools.

Do you know what the price was on those ratchets? Also is it life time warranty?

I bought powerbuilt when I worked at Checker auto parts. Great stuff, I think. I've just never shoped at CQ because their prices always seemed high.

i went to the oriellys parts store across the street from the carquest store and the stuff on the showroom was a bigger nose bleed then what was in carquest.

their slogan better parts better prices is few and far between. most of the stuff they sell is the same brand as carquest and prices is just that. its like going to the grocery store. both places don't match eachothers sale ad in the paper.

Don't get me wrong. I don't shop at csk/oriley either. Working there was rough. I tried my best every second I was there but they always left us understaffed so cs suffered.

Carquest did drop the Moog line too for some reason.I admit Carquest did something very smart, change to Delphi for their fuel pumps. Before it was Delphi,it was Airtex and nothing but failures left and right with Airtex.O'reilly sells Airtex fuel pumps.

my last shop , I call it NOT chevrolet , in the process of losing chevy , picked up kia kars , goodyear and car quest
we switched over to nothing but car quest brake pads and shoes
100% comeback rate , the brakes didn't squeak ,they had a metal to metal grinding sound , we asked about getting paid , car quest said they will give us 1 hour to warranty the pads , but in the process of losing all the customers ..I made plans to get the hell out of that zoo

Same with Carquest's Cheap brake pads.Put a set on a car and wore out quickly.Luckily there was a customer appreciation day and their brake parts rep was there. He saw the pads and looked at my father asking what he did wrong. It was not installer error and this Carquest parts store now closed down lost their brake pad sales to Auto Value using top of the line Wagner brake pads.No problems with the Wagner brake pads ever since.

carquest does sell delphi pumps as well as airtex. neither brand covers the entire field of cars so both are in conjunction with eachother to cover 90% of the market.

brake pads..... you get what you pay for. red box pads WERE known to be the worst product we sold. sometime in January the maker of the red box pads are now made by another brand (i think raybestos now)

the blue box and gold box pads are the ones to get. very very good pads. yes there is a reflection in price jump (on average $15-20 more) but well worth the money.

we sell a brand of pads even cheaper then the red box pads, they are actually pretty decent however they are so limited that it is hit/miss what makes and models they cover

The Delphi fuel pump line for Carquest is mainly GM.Luckily the brake parts rep that asked my father what he did wrong was fired.Carquest's brake rotors are not any good, tried a few and switched to Auto Value and Parts plus.

hard parts like that are nobody's control. prices reflect what you get on stuff like that. they take a raw piece of metal and put it on a lathe and thats about it.

we are in a throw away society and this is a product of that. you can't get a turning out of a rotor nowadays so it ends up being recycled. OEM rotors from a dealership will run more then you would care to invest on the front end of most vehicles anyways and to top it off need good quality pads in the $70-100 area to make it worth while

Um, I need some schooling here. I thought Powerbuilt was an 'ordinary' import line of tools. Is this brand better than I think?

it is ordinary yes, like sockets and wrenches. some of the other things are kinda nice like the hammers and ratchets. they have a line of 72 tooth ratchets.

i guess it is probably comparable to duralast or performance tool.

ratchet picture comparisons are up.

t72 snap on is 72 teeth
f80 snap on is a 80 tooth ratchet

prices of the powerbuilt ratchets are $19.99 for the 1/4" ratchet and $24.99 for the 3/8" ratchet
