Slowly getting there with my project.

I wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions for a door holder/limiter/stop for my garage doors.

I need something that will limit how open they go and to keep them all locked open if I want to air the building out or for cleaning. Don't need fancy (expensive) just something easy to use.

I have looked at some rixson, items and part number,
10-326 looks promising.

Anyone's experience would be helpful

Nice doors/design .... color and hardware. I'm painting some of my interior trim with similar.

The old school way with dirt and gravel driveway was to have a granite monument with a hole for a cane bolt ... Concrete --just drill hole. With brick/pavers or asphalt the way it to drop down a pipe. It's a simple strong system ... and you really don't notice the hole.

The 10-326's look interesting -- but if you have any wind I would get one to make sure it will work with a door as large as yours. The next set up is expensive.

I use a cane bolt on my historic house with out swing front doors -- too much wind. My garage the same -- except I have industrial chain and spring on them to catch -- should the wind take them. They are 4x8 and very heavy.

It looks like the rixson have a spring stop -- my spring is bigger.

Have you looked into automating one set? Not cheap - but they make a nice setup today for around $1100 or so.

What type of hinge did you use?

Thank you for your insight.

I purchased the hinges from, Tucker Industrial Specialty Hardware and they are from Richard-Wilcox. They are ball bearing hinges and operate amazing. dbef2799b69b2f430657a6d3a48c23bd.jpg

Rivit -- thanks for the hinge information. It's exactly what I need for my new build.

Did you buy or build the doors?

Unfortunately, when the roll up door was invented it wiped out the carriage door in popularity -- with it went much of the hardware being manufactured. The choices are limited

Look like you designed for 90 degree opening -- do you need to notch the corner for the hinge ?

Bumping this thread for hopefully some details of construction of the carriage doors.

Rivet - Nice looking shop!

Yeldogt - Did you build your carriage doors and post them somewhere that I missed?

This is probably the most tried-and-true, not to mention historically correct option.

Those doors are absolutely beautiful. The only thing that throws it off is the goofy window above the doors.

Here is an idea, he used some standard door openers that would work to hold your doors open and give you the automatic option.

In that Youtube link, the garage door motor is closing to open and vise versa from original design. I think the garage door safety sensor photo eyes don't work in this manor.

I read a post on Sawmillcreek.org where the poster used a chain driven type overhead garage door opener. He moved the trolley to the other side of the track (opposite chain side) to obtain the reversal while retaining the photoeye function.
