Anyone build their own carriage doors for their garage or know where I can get plans for different styles or carriage doors?

Ron,

I can't help you much, other than to tell you I searched around fruitlessly for real carriage doors for my barn. There are a lot of places that sell rollup doors that LOOK like carriage doors, but aren't. There are a couple of places that sell real, architectural quality carriage doors...but the prices are out of this world! And shipping? Forget about it!

I finally decided that I'd have to either find someone to do it or make my own. The amish cabinet maker down the road turned me down flat, leaving me with no one to turn to as far as having a set built. Personnally, I've decided I'll just have to make them myself if it comes to that.

If you come up with any options, please post them back here.

Phil

p.s. If you look at the barn behind the mustang in my avatar...those flip up doors under the basketball goal are what I'd like to replace. The openings are only 7' tall by 8' wide.

I've called around here in town and so far I've found three people who can make them for me. We have quite a few old historic homes here and there are a number of craftsman who cater to the needs of these houses. Not sure of cost yet but they can install them too and of course no shipping.

I've been to Charleston. You are being too modest. Very, very interesting and beautiful city with a tremendous number of historic homes and buildings.

I am in the process of finishing the framing of my shop and will be going with a board and batt exterior. I have decided to use rough sawn pine for a traditional southern barn look. The doors will be carriage type that I am going to build myself out of 1x2 mild steel tubing then skinning with wood to match the exterior. This should solve any structure issues for warping and make good solid mounts for hinges. The doors are 9x10. Sorry I don't have plans or pics yet and have a long way to go before I will need doors.

Hello All,
After living without a garage for the last thirty years and wanting one the whole time its finally happening! You never met anyone so excitied about such a minor thing in your life. No more having to duck to put my motorcycle away in the 10 by 10 shed! No more having to take the bike out of the shed to get the lawnmower out! WOO HOO!
Anyhow I want to install some nice Carriage doors on the yard side of thew garage, looking for plans.
