I've got my quote on the carriage doors from the person I will use. He does custom architectural millwork with exotic woods. They be full mortise and tennon doors of African Mahogany, also known as sapele and with 6 lites each of 1/4" tempered plate glass. I've seen doors made by him and they are so beautiful they look like they can be put on display in a musuem. Total cost is $3800 which I think is quite reasonable. They will be 2 1/4" thick and weigh at least 300 lbs each. Drawing is below.

They should be beautiful! Only about $3000 more than I want to spend!

Post some pictures when their up. If I replace the Zambian Chocolate Burlwood with T1-11, maybe it would drop the price to something I could afford. Same thing with the glass.

Those sound and look very nice, 300 pounds will require some heavy duty hinges for sure. Look forward to seeing them installed.

Hey Ron, they look nice. Will they be opening out?
I did something like that only I went with bi-fold doors.
That way they dont take up so much room when they
are opened.

Where did you all get the hinges?

My neighbor is a woodworker and made them.
I believe he 4 on each side of the jambs and
either 3 or 4 on the center sections. I know he
said he used industial roller type hinges because
of the weight.
Here is a picture of the end doors open.
