Carriage style doors with windows that open.

Howdy, I am looking for suggestions for placing an awning style window in a carriage door. I have two garage bays that we are converting from garage to living space and they really need windows that open. There are no other windows on that end of the house and that is the prevailing wind side.

Three out of the four carriage "doors" are fake, non-opening doors - basically standard walls that will have a carriage door attached to them. One of the four is an actual door into a mudroom. These doors measure 44" x 77" and the windows I have sketched here are 37" x 15" including the frame. Nothing is set in stone, I just want a normal-looking carriage door window appearance - and have it openable - with a screen.

Should I just order a double pane replacement glass panel like 33" x 12" or so and build my own windows? I don't want it to look like a chunky vinyl replacement window stuck in a garage door.

Any good custom wood door manufacturer should be able to build you that in any material, size and window configuration, non operable and operable.

There is a detached 2-car garage already in place and we needed more room in the house. I hate just about every example where people try to fill in where the old garage door opening was... it always looks half-baked. I thought this might be the best solution. I liked this idea a bunch, but they want many thousands of dollars to do this. This will be a DIY project. How hard can it be to make a window anyway...

I found some 36x24" awning windows at Lowes. If I set them in the door from behind so I can recess the bezel, I don't think it looks too bad.
