Carriage Style Doors

What are people paying for these. I got a quote on a "Overhead Door Company" 8X12, with an "X" on the door and a 3 pane window insert and it was $3000.00 just for the door! What is the deal?

Good idea on building your own! I want to spruce up my door, (16' wide single). With more PVC trim types available now, you should be able to make out for a few hundred bucks.

we had a customer just build a 4 car with funky odd size doors and put the wood looking doors on it, i was told 10k each installed. sounds like alot but every one on the job has been screwing this guy (young, cocky radiologist who over bills everyone and their grandma) on everything.

Prices for carriage doors are insane. I'm working on the plans for mine right now, just simple lap joints - nothing fancy.

Wood shouldn't be too much, I'm looking for some old reclaimed wood right now, but will get new doug fir or cedar if I can't find any good reclaimed wood before too long.

The hardware can get sort of spendy though as I have 3 sets of doors to do. I was looking at Lee Valley Hardware and just the hinges priced out at $350 (18 large strap hinges).

Where are you guys getting the hardware from? The glass?

I'm hoping to come in around $250-$300 per door or below $1800 for 3 sets.

What size are you building? Mine would be 8'X14' so I can back a trailer into it.

I just paid $6300.00 installed for a 14'x7'x3" clear cedar w/windows. It weighs close to 500lbs. and needed to have the standard tracks replaced with heavy duty tracks. Vertical wood costs about twice what horizontal wood does

Back in 2006 I paid $4500 for my 16x10 in paint grade, installed including a 3/4 hp liftmaster.

Well, my plan is to use 2x4 with brackets for the frame, T1-11 for the surface area. I plan on using some kind of standard vinyl windows for the glass.

Insulate the door, surface in the interior with OSB, and do the dress up (vertical and horizontal boards) with some primed cedar or whatever I can find.

I am kind of winging it. I plan to use some standard roller bearing heavy duty hinges and not the fancy carriage style hinges.
