Carrier Mini Split - Infinity or Performance series?

Going to purchase a Carrier mini split and trying to decide between the Infinity Series, their top of the line, or the Performance Series. Both seem to work well down to -13 degrees but the Infinity claims a higher Seer number which should provide better efficiency. Anyone have experience with either? Cost difference installed in St. Louis is about $1,400 for a 24k btu unit. I plan on being here for at least 10 years, God willing, so will I really recoup the difference in energy cost or is there another benifit that I am missing for the higher Seer rating?

Buy once, cry once. I would get the higher cost unit. Is the feature set the same on both other than the efficiency? I’m not sure whose units Carrier is private labeling now. Carrier does not manuf mini-splits. It was Toshiba and I guess they are a good unit. I think I would look at Fujitsu and Mitsubishi. They are one and two in mini-splits in N America and they manuf their own Equipment.

My experience with high tech, the more complicated it is the higher the chance of something going wrong. But it is under warranty for 10-12 years. Only the part not the labor unless you purchase separate labor coverage! One service call will quickly wipe out years of SEER savings!

No one talks about labor warrentys here so no idea what those cost.

Just so you know, the Performance series is the same as the Senville Aura units.
If you compare the performance charts for both, you'll see that they are the same.

You would likely find the Aura units for a better price than the equivalent Carrier units.

Also included in that list would be the Pioneer inverter ++ series.

I am not sure on the labor warranty issues. Most extended warranties are done by third parties. those companies like Triad and EWC, both off whom made a lot of money for the owners for several years and then they folded their tent leaving a ton of warranties out there. Most manuf like long warranties for the sale side of things but do not want to carry the liability of an extended warranty on their books, which they have to do if it is company supported.

I’d skip on anything Carrier. Fujitsu and Mitsubishi are the way to go. They aren’t going anywhere and Carrier doesn’t manufacture mini’s.
