A few months ago I received an estimate for a new HVAC system from a trusted local contractor, for my commercial building. I asked if they have spring specials and they said sometimes and that they would contact me if there is a sale. I got an email that there is a $138 rebate. Not much, but I am about ready to pull the trigger. I asked if it would save me money if I removed the old furnace and they said, yes it would save $270 in labor. I thought that was worth my time so I asked them to revise the estimate with those two discounts.

I get the revised estimate and the $138 discount is for substituting a Goodman unit for the original Carrier that was quoted. Are they one in the same?
Carrier 3 ton 13 seer 410A is the original unit.
Should I stick with the Carrier unit?

Thanks, Phil

The installation and setup matter more than brand. A perfect installation on a mediocre unit will work better and last longer than a poor installation on a top end unit.

That’s very true and I trust this company. I was just wondering if the carrier name is worth the $138 extra or if it’s the same unit.

Is the Carrier unit giving you problems? How old is the unit. R410A is new refrigerant.

$138 is worth it to go with Carrier.

410a is already on the way out. I'm not a big Carrier fan, either. It's not that they're unreliable, just poorly thought out from a service point of view.

Goodman is a great brand, great service and equipment. I have a BNL in HVAC parts sales has nothing but good to say about them. Carrier is good but you pay for the name. I installed a new Carrier unit 12 years ago, at 9 years the compressor crapped out. It was a bad batch of units I was covered so I could get a new compressor about $350 or a newer, better SEER unit but only the remainder of my 10 year warranty about 11 months. Went with the new unit $1500 installed 4 Ton. So far it's good.
That $138 should be more like$1380.00 savings.

The old unit I have now is from 1999 I’m pretty sure it’s r22.

I am going to go with this company as I trust their work. I also know I’m not getting a deal.
Close to $8000 for a 3 ton unit. The unit I have now is mounted inside the building and they will be roof mounting it.

BNL in parts sales, selling parts for Goodman you say? Makes his living off selling parts for Goodman.

I talked with the owner yesterday and he said they have excellent luck and great customer service from Goodman so I said OK. They will start the install on Tuesday.

Thanks for all the replies.

How are things going with this? Last year, my neighbor also found himself in such a situation, but he was dealing with another company and the price exceeded $800, if I'm not mistaken. He refused to pay, but judging by your situation, he did it in vain. I don't really understand the essence of such misunderstandings in companies.

To my knowledge, Carrier and Goodman are not the same...

Goodman/ Amana
Carrier/ Day and Night/ Bryant
Rheem/ Ruud
Trane/ American Standard

I personally think Goodman Amana stuff is just fine, but no idea once you start to get into the really high efficiency stuff
