Just wanted to say thanks to the GJ for all the information posted in here. It helped me find a builder and start getting my new shop started. Building is by Rob built and is 40x40x14 with a 15x40 shed and office on the side the builders where really fast, 3 days start to finish. It is just a shell right now but I have some big plans for it.

Congrats on the build. It looks great. What plans do you have for the interior?

white metal walls and celling with a two tone diamond plate wainscot and chai rail, custom epoxy floor. Still have to build an upstairs storage loft, finish out the office, build the bathroom and shower, and install all the cabinets .
picture is not the best but it is all I have to work with right now.

Looks an awful lot like a Mallet Building? Be very careful when pouring the concrete on the inside of the already finished building. Brother just had a bad experience with is interior concrete pour. They sent two guys to pour and finish 27 yards of concrete. 70+years old at that. They got concrete on all over the metal walls even after they were told by their boss to add visqueen to the interior walls to ensure it didnt happen. The pour went bad almost from the start when the truck was directed into the building. Then the rented finish machine would not start and they had to go get another one. But by that time the concrete had set and it was too late. So 27 yards of concrete have to be busted up and removed from the building and repoured. Take the sidewall panels off and cut them halfway and replace the concrete covered ones pretty much all around. And repour the concrete again(this time with a qualified crew).

WOW! That is not only sad but very incompetent of the contractor. I have not gotten the quotes yet but I have been scouting the local talent to see who has the best reputation. They for sure will not be able to be amateurs when it comes to pouring this slab, the way I have it designed to be built it will be crazy strong and will never crack. I am going to try to make it without any expansion joints by dividing the foundation into 8 (maybe more) rectangle shaped footers. I am going to most likely have to use #2 or #3 rebar for the chairs and laterals also for forming the mats. I have my eye on a 12,000lb. bend a pack and I sure do not want it to fall over.... :lol_hitti

Just make sure you have some good footings under the area where the lift will be located. I poured my slab 6" thick in a 10'x15' area where I knew I would eventually add the lift in my shop. Lift coming soon(hopefully)

thanks everyone for the comments just got a quote on the concrete, holy smokes was it high, was told it would be $120.00 per yard. At that rate for the bid the slab will cost more then the building did. :headscrat

$120 per yard for just the materials, correct? Finishing and labor would be on top of that. I usually pay around $3.25-$3.50 for in place concrete per square foot.

You did not quote the concrete before? :willy_nil

Welcome to the club!

While I paid a lot for concrete work, I heavily underestimated the cost of a "plain flat" concrete slab.

Kickass building! And good luck on the slab. Depending on the distance between you and the batch plant can really get expensive.

Well to be honest never had a need to price concrete out, but I did not tell the whole story. It seems about a year or so ago a company came in and bought every batch plant in the area for 100 mile radius and now are charging almost double the going rate. As for the mileage I have 3 in less than a hour away at the most one is about 30mins away. I just hate when big business takes advantage of the common people.
