Case Generators

Long story short, I ended up with a large credit to a store that sells Case and Honda Generators.

Both I am eyeing up are 2000 Series Inverter Generator. I know Hondas are extremely reliable, etc. but how are the Case units? They are also 1/2 the price.

So, anyone have a Case generator?

They look like the average overseas made generators. The Inverter kind of looks like a Generac. I would go with the Honda, "branded" things that a company doesn't make themselves is a no-go in my books.

Hard to tell from the 'artist's rendering' on that particular one, but they all look am awful lot like generic Chicom generators with Case IH stickers on 'em.

Honda builds inverter generators. The best on the market. Adjust the valves and keep ethanol out of them and they'll go forever.

Case just re-brands the junk Chinese inverter generators.

A quick search shows that the Case MCI2000 is the same inverter as a Powerhouse 60376, FME XG-SF2000, Lifan ESI2000i, etc. All generic Chinese units built and shipped over from Zhejiang with different colored plastic and stickers depending on who is buying.

Ethanol burns just fine in my Honda. Ethanol is not the problem, its piss poor gas that is the problem. And along with piss poor gas is some piss poor owners using crabby gas cans and storage procedures. We have a 1000 gallon barrel of gas, and being from MN it contains ethanol, it goes in every thing from a $20K Polaris rzr to a Stihl chainsaw to a 1950's tractor, no issues with gas related to the gas itself.

That being said buy the Honda.

Ethanol is a problem, you have either not noticed or don't recognise it as the source.
Buy the Honda, but be aware as reliable are they are the eu2000 is also a challenge to repair. Complete disassembly for a recoil rope replacement.
I'm not going to argue the ethanol...either you get it and recognise the issues that are wide spread and acknowledged throughout the power equipment industry or you don't. Leave it at this, never store your unit with regular ethanol gas in it...treatment or not the ethanol will ruin your carb.

Ethanol burns just fine in my Honda.

Never any issues with burning ethanol, the problem is when a carb sits for a while with ethanol in the bowl. Even if the gas evaporates, the ethanol leaves a nice yellow powder that coats the bowl and clogs the jets.

Case and CaseIH and New Holland have been selling generators for years. They are indeed manufactured overseas. However, don't hold that against them ! They function extremely well and are very reliable.

I agree that Honda is probably the gold standard of inverter generators, and they are reknowned for thier reliability and longevity. They also come at a pretty hefty price.

I always have questions about future service and part availability on re-branded items if I can't figure out who the OEM is. Name brand graphics (and price) on an import generator and engine - no thanks.

I had 3 of the Honda EU2000i generators on a job last summer powering a railroad scale laptop, and printer, air monitoring equipment, fuel pump on a portable tank, and power tools. They would all run from 5:30 in the morning until 4:30 or 5:00 in the afternoon 5 days a week. Extremely fuel efficient, quiet, and dependable. If I remember right, they have a 100 hour air filter service and oil change interval so we were doing it every other week or so. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

One advantage of the Hondas is that you have the option to buy an adapter cord, connect two units, and use them as a 4,000 watt unit if you decide that 2000 watts isn't enough for all jobs.

The most an important maintenance tip for any generator is to use it regularly under load.
