Case Ideas for Skill Worm Drive

Anyone have, make or adapt a case for a Skill 77 worm drive saw?

At this point my only idea is to grab a metal toolbox and cut a plywood insert for the saw to rest in.

Got any pics or ideas to throw my way?

( I'm also in the same boat for a PC router, but I think I can get one on ebay if I'm patient )

Skil has a blow molded plastic case for it. They're about $60 but they're very nice. I used to have one for my worm drive. Made it extremely convenient for the thief to carry it away.

I use a standard Craftsman 18" steel toolbox to hold a Skil 77. One shelf bracket for the top tray has to be removed to accommodate the saw, but otherwise its an easy solution, and has enough room left to keep a couple extra blades, arbor wrench & oil.

Wonder if a Skil 5860 8-1/4" will fit in that? I currently use a CLC bag, which is less than ideal for that purpose.

i have a steel skil case, for my antique skil worm gear. i think the serial # is -3-.
haven't started a new photo hosting account since the pb blowup
and, i was able to get a new unused pc steel router case on ebay.
there's an older used rockwell there now.

It does if you put it on its left side with the blade housing down.
Its not a big bag, but stores the 77 with room to spare for blades, etc.
The length is perfect, around 22" or so.

Maybe put it in a $8 Homer Box from Home Depot. Could buy some foam and cut out spaces for the saw to sit into.

I'd get a dedicated hex driver and attach it to the box. Those tend to disappear.

I just have my saws in a couple of leftover bags (DeWalt, Makita) from other tools.

Check the larger Festool Systainers , Bosch Lboxx or their Sortimo OEM equivalent. The Festool and Bosch track saws come in a large Systaner. Or the new Dewalt Toughsystem boxes. You can make a custom support bracket for the saw. The new Milwaukee storage system boxes also look excellent.

I remembered this Kennedy box I have sitting around. It's not quite big enough, though. I slightly larger box and just make a wood brace/floor for the blade and guard to fit through and for the table to sit on...

I am going to rule out the bags. The intent is mainly for shelf storage, on a pallet rack type unit. I don't do a ton of woodworking, and got the saw nearly mint for $10 and accidentally fell in love with it.

I think I am going to go the metal box route, with an LBOXX as per above suggestion as a back up plan.

I need to find a good steel replacement for my blow molded Crapsman that I put all my vise grips in. Got too heavy and the top and hinge broke.
If I could find about 10 of those old Craftsman steel tool boxes I would buy them to sort tools out.

Believe it or not, I store my Skil worm drive in a 5 gallon bucket and I keep it in my bedroom. No more storing those saws in the garage where a thief might see it. I'm pretty sure the power company meter reader stole my last saw, but I have no proof.

YES SIR ! I got that this week, easy peasy ! It is very nice. The lack of labeling on the metal box and the printing on the corrugated kind of implies it never made it to PC, must have been scrap/liquidated/whatever right at the case manufacturer.

Yep, I have the same one sitting around too. I measure 24" needed to be ideal.

That blow molded Skil case I had was awesome, but it was sort of a silver color, not black like the internet pictures. I'd rather have something soft like plastic for my saw to lay on.

to tell the truth, my 77 skilsaw is retired. semi cleaned it up, replaced the cord my bil cut thru, changed the gear box lube. buried at the bottom of a mountain of steel tool cases.
use my pc lefthanded circ saw.

I've found a good solution to this problem. It is a durable, high-quality, hard case for this heavy saw. The case is not made by Skil and in fact is DeWalt branded but the DeWalt name is subdued and only on the latch. There is no signature DeWalt yellow on the case at all and it seems to be a perfect case for a Skil 77 Worm Drive. There is a little extra room for some saw oil and extra saw blades.
If you tuck it in there right, you can even save the top tool tray that comes with the case but will not allow the lid to close with the saw inside (see my pics). The top tray (on the side) actually helps to stabilize the saw to keep it from wobbling around inside the case. Hope this helps!

Sometimes it pays to revive old threads. Good idea but bad for my wallet. Now I have to get one for mine that I've been storing in a soft bag. Oh well, it's only money.
