Our house was built in 1992. We're in the process of selling and just as we were "cleaning things up" I noticed that one of the 1992 Norco casement windows had failed, bottom rail rotted. I had a guy come out who rebuilds the sash (Argo Glass and Windows of the Milwaukee area). He showed me how to find more failed windows by pushing on the bottom rail cladding of the eighteen windows in the house. He found seven more; total of eight now.

Argo removes the sash and on-site rebuilds the window using the remaining good wood, cladding, and thermopane glass. They use "pressure treated Eastern European pine that has been finger jointed and laminated" and they join that to the good wood in the window. Their price is about $420 a window to do this. But along the way we "lost" a cladding piece of the worst window.

Then I found Fenster Components in Noblesville Indiana. They are familiar with Norco windows and based on pictures I sent they identified the Norco model number. Fenster rebuilds an entirely NEW sash for with new thermopane, new cladding (to match the other windows), and new wood. They will install in Grafton, WI (five hours from Noblesville). Price is about $625 per window.

The rest of the windows look pretty good. They need some sanding and poly on the inside, we can do that. I'm less concerned about the price in the grand scheme of things, I want it done right.

This is my first experience replacing windows. We're selling the house, so I won't live with them. But I need something that I can "sell" to a potential buyer as a good replacement decision.

Has anyone had any experience with either Argo or Fenster Components? Suggestions? Thanks!

Hello ****,
I'm curious to know if you decided to go with the Fenster replacement sashes for your Norco windows. I too have several Norco windows, from 1993, where the bottom wood rail on the sash has rotted. I also live in Wisconsin. Did you go with Fenster, and if so what was your experience?
Thanks
