Caster rating

Haven't seen this because it is probably too simple. If a caster is rated at 125 lbs does that mean 4 casters would hold 500 lbs?

Most casters I've seen are rated per unit. McMaster-Carr's descriptions list the capacity per unit.

Also remember, going on a rough surface, a single caster made need to carry far more than on a level surface so factor in a margin of safety.

Also in the same vein, larger wheels roll easier on less than perfect in surfaces.

Usually I design for a 2x safety factor on caster ratings. So four 500lb casters is 1000lb total load rating. That 2x safety factor is also called out in some of the EU requirements per the regulatory folks I work with.
