Anyone use casters other than the kit you can get from Lista? The lista kit is over $200 and I'm thinking of trying some from HD or HF. Thought I'd see if anyone has any experience with what worked or didn't.

Thanks!

There is a reason that they are that much, probably the 440lbs drawer capacity. However you might look at Northern Tool. They have some 5" poly wheels for like 15 a pop that are decent. I would not by a caster at HD of HF that I needed to support more then a 100lbs for any length of time. If your box sits its one thing, but if your box gets pushed around all the time then good casters are worth every cent.

Do you already have the base pieces or are you going to fab up something? The caster kit is more than just the casters, it includes mounting pieces and hardware...FYI.

There are a couple companies on the internet that sell good caster wheels half reasonable. Don't buy cheap casters, the first time one fails it could damage the box. Trust me, it happens.....

If I could get 4 colson casters like the ones on my listas for $200, I wouldn't waste a second looking for an alternative - and Im a scrounging cheapskate.

As for the box: the configuration matters. I have made a 2x4 frame to mount casters before and it works fine but look a bit low-rent.

You can't simple bolt them onto the single layer of sheet metal that comprises the bottom and expect them to hold up - they may buckle under load.

I made a square frame from 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 angle, put some good casters on each corner. Set the Lista cabinet into it and your good to go.

Defiantly DO NOT Cheap out on casters.... Stay away from the HF ones and go with nice quality ones from Grainger or Northern.
