Casters: Gantry Crane ?

Using my HF gantry crane that’s rated at 2000 lbs. I notice that one wheels the rubber is crack fixing break off in pieces. I went shopping looking for casters that has grease fitting but wondering about the weight. Do I look for casters that’s rated at 2000lbs each or 500lbs each? Where’s a good on line site to make a purchase. I also see that there’s different tire materials to pick from, also looking for suggestions for that.

You definitely don't need 2k each, but if you are really hanging 2k on it, I'd want higher than 500 each to have a little wiggle room.

2k all steel gantry has a shipping weight of 612 lbs. Then add a trolley and chain fall. Might what to think about 8" casters to make it easier to roll.

Get smart on the “tire” you want for the surface you roll on, brakes, and swivel locks.

Large diameter casters are easier to roll and less troubled by debris on the rolling surface.

Budget? you can easily spend more than the cost of the crane on quality casters

I'd be looking at 1200 lbs per caster minimum.

Princess Auto canada routinely has their 8 inch cast/poly swivel casters on sale for $25 CDN, and I recall they're about 1250 lbs each rated.

In addition to the weight of the gantry itself, and the hoist, rigging, etc., don't forget that the weight on a gantry can move almost all the way to one side or the other, resulting in a much higher load on one pair of castors than the other.

eBay has some excellent deals on quality casters, many are nos and reputable brands names like Colson, RWM, Albion, Faultless, etc...

I assume most castors are coming off the boat from China.
So I take their "rating" and divide by 2... Or maybe 3....

If you are patient, you can get some good deals on quality castes that have real load ratings you can believe on EBay. The question I always ask is if the caster breaks, what is the worst case scenario? That can be pretty bad on a crane. I have see caster failures and the end result was not pretty.

Taking the advice, search the links provided. It looks like I found what will work for me. Take look please before I pull trigger. Seems perfect fit for my crane that be on concrete slab. It won’t be daily user just once while

Keep in mind that you dont get to add all four casters to achieve your weight limit, more like what if all the weight shifted to one side.

I would avoid the rubber wheel option unless you need a quiet or soft ride feature.
Better to find the poly or steel wheel option, would likely improve the weight rating
