Casters on Workbenches?

I needed to move a steel workbench out of the garage for floor preparation. I like everything to be on casters for easy access, and had a spare set available from another heavy project so...

I got out the ol' electric metal glue gun from Hobart and stuck those suckers on there. Easy simple welding job, only about 10 min start to finish since I had everything right there ready to go. Now it rolls really easy, and that will be nice to roll it out into the driveway for more work space. The locking casters have set screws that come in from the side that really lock up the wheels solid. I am impressed.

The steel table was a deal too at an estate sale for $30. It's about 3x8.

if you are hitting something or doing heavy work on vice, it will move around.

I want my work table heavy and stable as possible.

I like it. I have a stable work bench against the wall for heavy hitting and vice work. I plan on building a table with casters on it for over sized things, or just a island table in the garage for enjoying bevs on.

If it locks like you say why not? I have thought about my "Island Bench" needing to move so wheels will go on it too. I think a drop down like table saws would be nice.

Made mine mobile with old floor jack wheels on rear and jacking up a cross member in the front........then it gets pulled around easily with that jack.

I've got a bench with casters and use it a lot. I installed a couple of hooks and turnbuckles to hold it tight against the wall when necessary. Works great.

Here's the one I made up a few days ago.My workspace in the garage isn't very big so I needed a mobile work bench.When I have to pull a car in I can move the bench to the front of the car and have enough room to move around.I used the casters from the husky box on the bench.Doing the work bench that way allowed me to maximize the space in my garage.

I got the same workbench for a dollar at an estate auction.
Mine will be an island/welding table and i also want wheels on it.
What size are your wheels?

These were 4" with 1.5" wide treads. Rated at 500# each. Yeah, they are tough little suckers.

I have a workbench for solid / heavy work. Having a workbench I can roll out to the vehicle / project in question is very handy. I will have to consider adding a power cord to this underneath.

I thought about using it as a welding platform, but it's just too big for that dedicated usage.

I have some of these that I plan on using on a work bench...

I also prefer "total lock" style casters where it locks the wheel from rotational and swivel.

Real workbenches don't have wheels.
