Ok so it has been documented on here in the past regarding CAT tools being Snap-on and Williams. But the current black handled screwdrivers in the CAT catalogue are they Snap-on blades or Williams blades? does anyone know?

The Cat/Snap-on link has been documented on here previously. At least regarding wrenches and ratchets.

I just figured I would ask regarding the screwdrivers.

One of the bonuses of being the first year apprentice that has to clean all the vehicles that come into our workshop covered in **** from the mines is that I have amassed a small collection of CAT branded tools, including a couple of screwdrivers.

Is there any way I can tell whether they are Snap on or actually Williams screwdrivers? What are the differences between Williams screwdrivers and the Snap on ones

Well I was issued with 8T - 0460 CAT service-mans tool kit while working for CAT in Africa.

Came in a Black snapon box, 90% of the issue was Snap on - Blue point. the majority of the wrenches where not Snap-On .. But the smaller ones where Either CAT branded Snap on or just Snap on. The hammers were bluepoint etc ..

The sockets were Snap on and the metric ones were actually branded Snap on ..

The 3/4 head was the same but was not Chrome ..

Screwdrivers = 100% Snap on.

While working for CAT in Canada I use to buy some CAT tools at 70% discount .. The 4 way wrenches = Snap on.

doesn't matter if they are snap on or williams blades. break a tip, pull it from the screwdriver then hand it to the snap on man.

Dont need to even pull the blade out .. Just take it to your nearest Caterpillar tractor dealer for warranty .

It states in the CAT hand tool catalogue that they have a Liftime warranty.

Kinda like this $62 Snappy ratcheting screwdriver that they have up for $92 plus $12 for shipping.

I guess that CAT logo makes it worth the extra $30. HA!

I'll have to check next time I'm at the Cat dealer but I bet that screwdriver is cheaper brand new. I guess people don't realize that anybody can go to a Cat dealer and order tools.

The CAT screwdriver you link to appears to be a rebaged Williams, not Snap-On. Note the differences in the handle shape. This ebay seller has them for $35 shipped.

Yea that does look like a williams. Though in the CAT catalog the shape appears to be a SO, granted it could just be an old picture. I might have to inquire tomorrow at work :)

I've seen some CAT ratcheting wrench's on ebay that appear to be BP ones since I don't see a flank drive. And the lettering appears to be screened on or something

I looked at some of the Cat tools a couple weeks ago. The hard handles look and feel like the Snap On's (The patent numbers even match). The ratchet screwdriver looks like a rebranded Williams, however it comes with Snap On branded bits

Yea the cap and selector look SO, but the shank isn't knurled like the SO I have. I'll have to get some of those hard handles. Depending on what I can get them for.

The handle is the Williams/Bahco handle but the shank, switch and guts are Snap on.

What makes you think that?

The shank of the CAT is not knurled, same as the Williams. Plus, if you notice, the Williams and Snap-On have the same two dots next to the shank. How do you know the Williams and Snap-On even have a different mechanism?

Just called my local dealer and seems street price was $64.91.
