This place has me spit shining my 1979 Buffalo drill press . Dang thing aint a masterpiece like some of you fellas have shown but , There are many like it but ,This one is mine and serves me well .

I am not a wood worker but have and will again drill a whole in a piece of wood but mostly I need to drill light steel projects . I like to put a small spot of oil on the bit , and there comes the mess that I would like to contain somewhat .

Anyone came up with a catch basin / cake pan / backsplash type of do-hickey to catch shavings ?Thats where Im at now trying to come up with something to help keep the press and stand alot cleaner than I have in the past .

New paint on the vintage truck wheel stand and just wanting to keep it looking somewhat clean .

What you fellas use that works ?

Thanks for any help .

What kind of table does it have on it? This is why most true metal working drill presses have a solid/slotted table with an oil tough and drain around the perimeter. Or on the larger machines a catch basin built into the base with a pump.

On a smaller round column drill press with open table, the usual method is to make a ~1" deep pan slightly larger than the table that mounts to the column and can be adjusted to right below the work table. Weld in a drain bung for hose to collection bottle and a screen grate to filter out large chips.

I used an old pizza pan... I radiator clamped one of the smaller angled shelf brackets to the bottom of the column and put a screw through the middle of the pan to bolt it to the bracket. Been there for years.

I've been using a metal pan I picked out of the free pile at a yard sale.

I just have an old kitchen sized trash can that I place under the table.

Catches most of what falls through the center hole and is easy enough to toss small scraps in and then take to the recycler when it gets full.
