Going through some sockets tonight and found a couple of 3/4 drive Blackhawk sockets of the same period. Are you guys missing any. I'll get them cleaned up and see what size they are.

Jim from enginedecals found this image of a Blackhawk tools 'under the lid' decal on another website, it shows the writing better.

Jim has a question for us all about the round emblem for the front of these boxes:

'As for the round one would guys be happy with a decal or do we need to pursue it as a metal emblem?'

What do you all think? I didn't know it would be an option.

I had some repro emblems made for my blackhawk box. They weren/t the CAT Type however. Twertsy loaned me an original and I had them reproduced.
They do involve several steps of handwork to make them look accurite.
Not cheap or convenient but a great way to get a near perfect emblem.
I can get you info for you to contact the guys I used. They are about 50-60 miles from me.

Otg, I am curious about a few differences with our boxes. Yours has the chrome and from what I am seeing the Blackhawk branded one all do. I was always wondering if the snap on ones did also but then I just read Ys thread and can see there seems to be a groove for the chrome? Also on the bottom of mine looks like a mounting set up. Does yours have the same?

That's a nice reproduction of the badge y'sguy.

Jim is working on the artwork for making some round badges for the Caterpillar versions, and have some more quastions:
-Confirm these are flat sheet metal and not domed?
-What is the thickness of them?
-How are they attached to the box?

Sorry cause the trouble of asking this but I have never actually seen an original real one 'in the metal', as the only box I have seen here is my friends one and all the badges have been robbed off it.

Gonna be a very pretty box when you finish, worth the work and time for sure. A box made to repair the machines that helped make this great country we love.

I just dug this out of storage it's been there a looooong time. I'm going to use this in my new saw shop I just finished. I remembered this thread, haven't cleaned it up but thought somebody might like to see it. What the well healed Caterpillar mechanic might have back in the day.

Looks great, Stormking. I have the bottom only, dreaming of finding the top in the future. I would prefer the 4 drawer symmetric drawer version I saw once on the net (for some reason I really like symmetry), but given the rarity will be extremely happy with anything...

This is mine - I bet they are identical inside, but can you make a picture of the top drawer layout? (if it's different)

Is there a chance you have a picture of the top drawer with the tools as they were supposed to be (or catalog picture of how things were supposed to be set up)?

...I think in some distant future I might bite the bullet and pay for somebody to sandblast, straighten the dents and powdercoat the red rover (the black strips is probably cheaper to just paint on at the end than to powdercoat on top...)

Great setup. In my experience, it's not an easy job to blast a cabinet like this. There are to many nooks and crannies that blow back. It can be done, just make sure you get an estimate from them first. You might also try some professional chemical dip service. Altho these are hard to find these days. I used a local guy that uses a water and sand slurry method. It was really great and prevents the metal from warping. I painted mine as it was more cost effective than the powder coating.

Hey Shelby, my tray is identical to yours. This one will be cleaned only, My preference is for original patina the same with old gas pumps.

Great! Stormking, are you planning to collect the original set or use it for other tools?
I previously posted setscontent of the sets, but it was low resolution scan. I since retyped it in word. Can not attach it here due to file volume, but can email it to you if you need.

Another of these kits surfaced, for sale on eBay UK asking price £750 for collection in West London.
It looks like the large sockets haven't been used and most of the smaller items have been lost!
It's in one of those smaller 3 drawer boxes same as the one I have except this is complete with the tote tray, and the badge.

Looks like an earlier one than mine. Lots of stuff still in there. Not cheap but looks pretty good.

Interesting. I saw asymmetrical drawer toolbox with this, but not R70. Rare find, appears to be in relatively good shape.
If somebody has this money to spare, could be an interesting addition.
I tried to buy the asymmetric tool box before, but the seller wanted $500.
Please give me the model number so I would know how to properly call the box: 3 smaller drawers on the left, two larger on the right...
Blackhawk labeled versions go for less...
