I wish they'd put up a price list. The Cat tools I've seen on Ebay are always cheap so I wonder how they compare to SO new. If I can get SO quality for cheaper because it says Cat on it, I'm game.

Ive got some Cat tools, I wish they were easier to get a hold of, I was told you could order them from Cat dealers if you have part numbers, I had some catalogs from 94 and 95 FULL of Cat tools

The problem with buying anything from Cat is the price.Caterpillar makes Snap on look like cheapskates when it comes to pricing things.Anybody who has owned or worked on Cat equipment knows what I mean.Unless you work for a huge company that gets a huge discount, buying tools from Cat is probably not going to be cheap.I priced a 1/4" dr ratchet, the old 36 tooth style,6 months ago and with my discount it was $86.Without discount it was well over a hundred.

Well screw that, Ebay it is.

I know buying parts from Cat is expensive as far as truck engines go but I would hope everything isn't that pricey. I think Mack is just as bad though because you have to buy almost everything from Mack.

They can be hard to get on Ebay sometimes.I searched there for about 6mths.A couple went through but none that would ship to me here in Canada.I finally got one from another member after having a wanted add in my sig for a while. It's in the middle of this group,I use it most everyday at work.

We priced an injection pump for a 3208 we have in a genset a couple months back-over 10 grand just for the pump. This is an emergency genset for the control room at one of our power plants so it's not like we could just yank the pump and send it out to be rebuilt.I found an old one on a shelf in the back of our storeroom and sent that for rebuild, saved us quite a few thousand.I was doing an engine job on a Cat engine in a Sterling chassis one time,we priced the parts out at over ten grand with a cyl head.I had asked the Service Manager to get me a service manual and add it in the bill. That got vetoed when the manual priced up at $600.Gotta love Cat.

Can't say I've heard of them but I'd say by the looks of the head Snappy made tools for them.I know they made retchets for several private labels over the years.I've seen them branded as Greenlee even.

Part of that price is because it's Cat, and part is because you bought the kit. You can buy gaskets and seals individually, but you'll have to go through and order every gasket and seal you need. We just did an inframe on a 3406E and IIRC all the gaskets and seals totaled ~$450 or so.

I was doing an engine job on a Cat engine in a Sterling chassis one time,we priced the parts out at over ten grand with a cyl head.I had asked the Service Manager to get me a service manual and add it in the bill. That got vetoed when the manual priced up at $600.Gotta love Cat.
If you have access to the Cat parts store, you should be able to look up and print out any service info you need. Not quite the same as a dedicated paper manual, but with a little digging you should be able to find most specs and disassembly/reassembly instructions. The parts guys just don't want to tell you that, because they don't want you ordering parts without them. ;)

I don't get to call parts suppliers for parts,we have a parts guy for that so I've never seen the Cat parts store you linked but it looks pretty useful. For the people looking for the Cat tool catalog,if you follow stick's link to the parts store the tool catalog is there on the left side of the screen.

Yeah it takes some searchin on ebay, but youll eventually find them if you have the patiance.

if it is a Cat part only, meaning Cat is the only people that make it, expect to PAY for it, a single loader return to dig sensor, no bigger then a dollar bill cost well over $400 , dont even get me started on how much rebuilding the finals an a D8(D8K especially) costs

I get a really good discount at my CAT dealer, but then again I am the workshop manager. Some CAT tools are Snap on, some Blue Point and some Williams, I still buy a few CAT bits and pieces even though I'm officially "Off the tools" and some are very cheap compared to SO and then some are just about line ball. For example the 3/8-1" spanner set(I think they are made by Williams) are about $400 for an employee where as the SO set is about $750.

The third ratchet from the bottom looks interesting. Can you tell us what it is? A solo photo of it would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the one you were asking about Senlow? It's a Mac Microtough,1/4"dr.It can also be found branded as Proto and Precision I believe. It's very fine,72teeth if I remember but they aren't great for high torque applications.I've been looking for another to cut down and make a stubby out of.It's by far the finest action of any 1/4"dr I've used.A stubby version would be awesome for under dash work.

My buddy used to be a CAT field service tech. He's got two Snap-on top boxes that are CAT-orange and have CAT logo decals on them. They're snappy boxes from the '80s or so, but came orange from the factory.

He won't sell 'em!

Buying from Cat is VERY pricey.

 I've picked up a few sets right off the rack at the dealer when I went in to pick up some parts. Just charged them on the account. LOL a $200 set of wrenches doesn't make a **** bit of difference on a $5000+ parts bill for one trip.
