Anyone know anything about CATIC / Draper vernier calipers? I just bought a 0-150mm (0-6") caliper at a garage sale. I got about 50ft of 3/8" chain with grab hooks and the caliper for $35. It feels pretty good in hand, but Google hasn't produced much. Both the caliper and the leather sheath have the same symbol of the wings. CATIC USA Inc. trade marked that symbol and appears they build tools for aerospace industry??

I'll post pictures when I can, I keep getting an error message......

Draper is a British industrial supplier of tools.
I don’t think they do their own manufacturing, they just sell high quality stuff.
A lot of the current tools are imported from German manufacturers like Elora, with more affirdable lines that may be made in Taiwan and maybe India, since Whitworth wrenches are still commonly made by one or more Indian manufacturers.
Unless there’s a COO on the caliper, it might be hard determining were it was manufactured.

Found some more info.
Catic is a trademark of AVIC International.
AVIC stands for “Aviation Industry Corporation of China”
AVIC appears to be China’s manufacturer of military aircraft like fighters and bombers and transport jets, so maybe something like Boeing.
If Catic was set up to make quality metrology equipment for AVIC, then the items might be high quality or very high quality.

Neophyte - Thanks for the information. doesn't sound like a bad purchase. I'm not machining anything to close tolerances, so it will be perfect for my uses.
