The Pro Model sold at Home Depot works well.

Last time I looked the big box stores basically carry 2 grades. The lowest grade stuff (cheapest) works but when you release the trigger it keeps oozing out. The higher grade stuff will retract back a bit to cut down on the oozing when you let go of the trigger. This has been my experience at least.

I just bought one 6 months ago, but I'll be dipped if I can lay my hands on it. I did find a pry bar that I had misplaced, so some good has come of this search.

I keep thinking about that one too kythri, but have the same issue purchasing it. Anyone have one, give a review? If it *****, I'm not spending 40 bucks on it.

As far as manual caulk guns go, they all seem to be about the same, the cheaper ones do **** to use though. As far as the caulk oozing out, when you're done, pop the release button in back, it'll jump the plunger back a bit, and it won't ooze anymore.

B,

My local Sherwin Williams store sells two lines of caulk guns that are identical to what Home Depot does - only difference is that the SW store charges 50% more for basically the same thing.

I bought one like what Stephen posted about 3 years ago. Works with no problems. Great flow control, releases pressure when letting off the trigger, etc.

Cox makes some good caulk guns if you want to spend the money.

You'd really have to be doing a lot of caulking to make a battery powered gun worth while in my opinion. I'd only consider one if I was getting ready to prep an entire house exterior for new paint.

Never had a problem with my guns, personally I like the 1/2 round ones that you can drop a tube in but thats just me.

My recommendation is just buy whichever one seems like it will work, is half way decent has a nozzle cutter and a piece of wire to poke the tube.

I have the one that Stephenw posted; it's a very nice gun that makes all the other caulk guns seem like garbage. It has no brand name; all it says is:

REG DESIGN No 1023572
MADE IN ENGLAND.

I also have one that looks like Stephenw, works great used occasionally over the last 4 years, big improvement over the cheaper ones, you will be surprised by the difference. You can really control the bead of silicon. I purchased mine from Home depot or Lowes, well worth the extra $10 dollars.

Thanks guys...I never bought a new one last night...we went to a parish fish fry then watched a movie instead. At some point over the weekend I'll get some motivation and go buy one.

Old thread... I know.
Was searching the same info as above (....... No 1023572) and came across this thread.
I have this caulk gun and want to get another like it for a family member.
Just thought I’d let anyone else looking that they are made by COX.
Mine has this name imprinted on the release lever.
Great gun. Think I got mine at Home Depot 20 years ago.

I used one of those the other day. It was pretty good at applying thin latex painter's caulk in an even bead. But it was too flimsy to use with urethane caulk or construction adhesive.

I've had great results with the "Dripless" guns with any caulk or construction adhesive that I've used, but I can't really refute your observations - maybe we use different products?

I still have a few of the Cox guns from England - those were very good. Cheap knock-offs sold at big box stores aren't worth a damn, IMO.

Possibly. The one I used was also very well loved by the time it reached my hands.

Dripless make a range of guns. I've got two, one is a cheapy with something like a 6:1 lever ratio. It works find for painter's caulk and the like. I've used it with construction adhesives, and it's not as nice. I have strong hands, and can make it work. The other is a fancier plastic one, with a higher ratio, and it dispenses thick stuff just fine.

Just get one that releases the pressure on the tube. Prevents caulk from dripping out when the trigger isn't pressed. I have the one from HD and it works great.

I don't use caulk daily but when I do, it's about every other year and only say 1/2-3/4 tube. When I do use it the cheap made in china guns break or the plunger on several of them bent so I bought a Cox from Amazon.com several years ago and haven't looked back. It's durable construction is probably the last gun I'll ever buy. Get a Cox.

Spend some time on Amazon looking at specs. Twenty minutes and you’ll know, or seem to know more than you ever wanted to know about caulking guns.

I ordered something that would work with viscous epoxy to set some concrete anchors. Found a 28:1 gun that worked effortlessly. Don’t remember or care what the brand was, as it will probably outlast me.

The quality of gun seems to pretty much track the price on Amazon.
