Caulking gap between add-on Patio and Brick House

Hi,
Previous owner added a Patio and the gap between it and house was filled with some type of Sealant which is failing.
I removed the deterioration section and found no Backer-Rod per se. It appears anything within reach was shoved into
the gap and an unknown type of Sealant applied. I assume it was not a Self-Leveling Sealant based on the angle and lack of filler placed in the gap.

Q. Can someone please tell or reference me to a method and/or product to re-seal this and make it look like the sound sealant?

Any recommendation would be most welcomed.

Rip it all out, fill it with the appropriate size backer rod, finish with Sika Flex. I like to finish my joints with sand on top. Gives it a finish that looks closer to the concrete and makes the joints a bit less noticeable. Don't try to mess about and preserve some portion of it. If part of it was going to ****, the rest is right behind it. Do it right and you'll be good for 5 years or more depending on sun exposure and how much freeze/thaw you get.

You put it in a crack and it levels by itself without tooling. It’s good for sidewalk joints and filling cracks. Silka is one Brand.

What he said. I have used foam pipe insulation when the gap was big and I had no backer rod in my van.

OK. I’ll rip it out and redo it. Is their particular type of sand I should use?
