Cbinet Placement

I just got a pretty good deal on some garage cabinets from a local wholesaler. I got 7 of the below cabinets for 120 bucks:

They are 25" wide 23.5" tall and 12" deep. My problem is placement.... Here is a pic of my workbench, maybe a little input from you guys will help me decide how to put them up.

Be careful you don't put them in place that'll have you bumpin your noggin against them, so they'll have to be a little on the high side (depending on your height, of course.

I'd put them somewhere other than near my bench, to avoid that, and to avoid having the doors open and dinging me while I wandered around the bench. On a wall, over other (mobile?) tools, for instance, or placed so your compressor (or other object) will sit beneath?

For my method of working, it would be idela to have them low enough that I could easily see all the way to the back of the top shelf (if I don't see it, I tend to want to buy another one) . . . . this would likely mean NOT over the bench.

But YMMV, of course.

Bad Texas I like the way you secured your bench to the wall. This will allow you to sweep and sit under your bench with a stool or chair without hitting legs that usually associated with work benches. When your down come do my garage.

French cleats.
I put a continous cleat around the perimeter of my shop. I can hang my cabinets anyplace and reposition them without using tools or making holes in the walls

anewman - that was the sole reason for building them like that. I hated having to move my benches to clean around them, so I built cantilever benches and lag bolted then to the house framing....The legs are tied into the sill plates so I think they will stand up to some abuse.

trainer - that is how they attach to the walls, so I may use your advice and add some extra cleats around the garage.

Great idea regarding the french cleat...In fact, in the second pic, looks like the french cleat is already built into the cabinet. You only have half the work.

Heck of a great deal. As far as placement. I would either find some type of corner shelving ( or build one out of the same type of material, painted to match as close as possible) then run the overheads either 3 to the left and 4 to the right, or 3 and 3, then find some other place for the leftover. It looks like the bench to the right is 12' if I am reading it correctly. It's a little blurry. So three to the left and four to the right would work out with a corner shelf of the proper size. Also it looks like you have an opening in the back. I would put a cleat in the same thickness as the back material to hang it, then screw through the back to the studding.

Here are a few pics with 4 cabinets hanging. I plan to put in a corner shelf that will hold my computer and monitor and **** one more shelf up on the left and two shelves on the right leaving a gap for peg board between them. Let me know what you think. PS... ignore the mess, Im working on it....

In the first pic you can see a 48" level on top of the cabinets, that will give you an idea as to the scale.
