Somebody offered me one recently on a trade but I don't know anything about the company. They seem somewhat popular in europe but I've never seen one here ? I would just try it but it's missing the gun and hose. The trade value is about 400$ and the model is a Cebora 160 mig welder. It seems like an older model though. Is this a good welder ? Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance !

Snap-On seems to have relabeled Cebora 160's overseas. I assume they'd use all the same accessories, not sure if that'd make them any easier to find though.

I wouldn't, by the time you get a gun on there ~$150 plus figuring out what else may be wrong with it, you are not far off from a big name modern machine in that class. Obscure brand mig machines pop up and fall away on a regular basis. For any long term support without pulling teeth, stick with Miller, Lincoln, Hobart, TA or Esab.

I wouldn't do it. If you want a welded, MILLER, LINCOLN, or HOBART. ALL are proven in the industry .

Heres some pictures of the welder in question. The serviceability of the unit is my main concern followed by wether or not I can get consumables is also up there.

I have several other welders already just not a good mig. I have a CH mig 110, a gas multiquip 170 amp with a generator and a sweet Miller XMT 304. I was just considering adding to the collection something that MIGHT be cheap and useful.

Oh and the guy says he may have the gun.

I have a Cebora180 but I think it's a bit more modern than the welder you show there. I've bought it new in 2004 and it has served me well. It's being sold here as a small shop welder for professional/semi-professional use and I completely agree. I've not posted much welding pictures but believe me that the machine is quite capable. From a quality point of view you should not be concerned.

Cebora is a good brand , made in Italy (probably)

it looks like you have a standard euro connector for the gun, guns go cheap on ebay

I wouldn't buy a mig so small, at least 200A

400 for that is def not a bargain, maybe 150 if you really want to make some sparks ...

If you have a Miller XMT 304 why are you saying you don't have a good MIG? I'd give my left nut for one. Oh, wait, those are 3 phase AFAIK.

If you have an XMT 304 all you need to add is something like an S22A wire feeder and you have an excellent MIG.

I haven't found a wire feeder for the XMT thats less than a grand. This cebora had no cash layout. The XMT I have is single phase I plug it in with no problems. I also have an older hobart 220/440 3 phase stick welder I was given, I just need to get a phase inverter I think ?

My son dug a re-branded (MAC tools?) Cebora 120V welder out of the dumpster at work several years ago. The wire feeder drive assembly (plastic) was broken and wouldn't apply pressure to the wire. I glued it back together and it worked for a short time then the plastic broke again. Parts for that model were NLA. Daytona Mig sold the same model badged in their name and they couldn't supply parts either. The welder, outside of the wire feeder, was a nice little unit with heavy copper windings. I still have it have it and someday I will try to graph in a common wire feeder and get it going again.

Partly right . . . . there are both 3 phase and Single phase versions of the Miller XMT 304. Have to look at plate on unit or research the serial number.

Here's example of guy who REALLY thinks his XMT 304 welder and 22A wire feeder are "made of gold" as he's got them priced at $2,450 !! :scared:

That's about what I've seen them for. That is one heavy duty wire feeder. Honestly for what I want to use the mig for, that is serious overkill, not that there's anything wrong with that...

Running a 3ph only welder on single phase is a little more complicated than that, due to the high power requirements. It is not quite as simple as the smaller motors.

Given your situation and your goals of perusing a welding career...
I'd sell/scrap (old 3ph welders have VERY little appeal) the hobart
Skip the Cebora
Get a nice set of stick leads for your XMT if you don't already
Get a scratch start tig torch setup for your XMT if you don't already
Get a decent wire feeder for your XMT*.

* Or, skip the wire feeder for the XMT and get a compact 110v/220v machine. Just depends if you need the raw power and duty cycle of the XMT wire welding. The XMT while a nice machine isn't a very good small shop/hobbyist machine.

Seems like too much money for something that you don't know that it works, is not that powerful, and is missing parts

I have the small campbell hausfield welder I use for dinking around. Once I get the training I will probably pick up a miller bobcat or an SA 200 or 300 to put on the truck. The welding will supplement what I do now so I don't get layoffs as often.
