Customer wants me to side his garage with cedar shingles over existing stucco. Wants me to install fir stripping directly over the stucco garage and install shingles to the stripping. My initial thought is this is probably not the best way to go about this. Wouldn't it be better to remove the stucco, check sheathing and make any repairs, re-wrap the garage and install shingles directly over sheathing. Relatively small garage, about 20x24 looks like the exterior walls are only 7' to the soffits (I only saw a picture of garage so far). I don't think it would add that much to job to remove the stucco. Am I over thinking this?
