Looking for a contractor to do the ceiling and walls in my 30 x 36 garage. The ceiling is 9' and the walls are 2 x 6. I think I would like a metal ceiling and sheetrock walls. I may do the walls myself but definitely want someone else to do the ceiling. Not enough time in the day to get everything done! Anyhow, I have read a bunch here about metal vs. sheetrock for ceiling and think metal will look nice. I plan to blow in insulation after the ceiling is up and of course insulate the walls before sheetrocking. Looking for some advice as to how much I should expect to pay for the work....or better ideas. I live in upstate NY.

One experienced metal guy and a helper put twenty 14' strips of Menards Durapanel on my 30x30x11 ceiling in 1 day. Cost me about $500 plus the panels to do it. They had to cut around and fit 10 recessed outlet boxes, a hanging gas heater, and a GFA furnace flue and return duct.

I love the look of the metal on the ceiling and it reflects the light very well. With 16 FEIT 4' LED strip lights it's like daylight in there to work on projects.

I'm putting 4x10' 3/8" T1-11 LP Smartside on the walls myself.

If that is a habitable room above then you'll need to Sheetrock the ceiling with 5/8 type x regardless to meet building code for fire separation. You can still put metal over that if you like though.

I just put up...had put up 5/8"rock on my new ceiling. I think it will be a better thermal barrier, and having grown up in Upstate NY, that is important to you. For my walls I am putting up 4X8X1/2" AC plywood on the 10' walls. I will have a 2' section at the top of the wall and the plywood will give me the ability to remove any 4' panel to access any part of the wall. I know I will need to re-route air, power, speaker wire, etc. the minute I'm finished. As soon as I get into the space I will have a series of Ah-ha moments and I can more easily begin the re-model with the removable plywood sections. That just seems to be the way my mind works!
