GJ’rs, I’m looking for guidance regarding ceiling cartridge heat pumps for the office in my barn/workshop here in NE Kansas. A little background: The office space is 10’x30’x8’ located on the southwest corner of the building which is 30’x60’x12’. The building is slab concrete floor throughout with 2x6 walls and open trusses. Except for the office, the building is uninsulated. The main part of the office is 10’x17’ with a door to close off the rest which is a hallway and closet. There are two windows, one to the outside and one to the inside. The entire office inside the building is covered by a 3/4” plywood roof for storage so there is approximately 4’ below the trusses.
Because I really only need to cool and heat the main part of the office, the ceiling cartridge style sounds appealing since it wouldn’t take any wall space. I see that the heat pump could either be located on the ground outside the office or directly above the ceiling cartridge. I like the idea of the direct mount above the ceiling cartridge since it would be better protected from the elements and from damage when mowing. I’d also think it might be more efficient in the winter, but question whether it would work as well in the summer when the temperature inside the building might be hotter than the outside temperature late in the day. I do have four 14” turbines for ventilation.
Sorry for the lengthy discussion; your experiences will be welcome. Thanks!
