I did a search, but after 17 pages didn't really see anything.
I'm finishing up the walls in my shop in the next two weeks, and it's time (well-past time, actually) to attend to the ceiling.
The shop is 32x40, with open rafters. The sun passes directly over it from 10am to 6pm, the long way, heating the roof shingles and turning the interior into an oven.
On one corner, I have a 10x10 office with storage loft above it, protruding into the rafters. I have "walled" this loft off with foam panels on the rafter trusses and against the roof trusses (allowing air to the eaves) to make a decent, insulated storage area. It is noticeably cooler there than the rest of the open ceiling.
In the back corner, I have a 4x6 closet with storage above it, and will do the same thing with the foam boards.
For the rest of the shop, it's going to get a basic ceiling with no storage in the rafters.
I'm looking at some kind of metal roofing or siding. Eventually I'll blow insulation into the rafters, but for now, just having a barrier between shop and ceiling will make a huge difference.
What have you guys used to cover your ceiling? Sheet rock is time-consuming, messy and very labor intensive, and by the time you get done with all the other supplies (mud, tape, sand paper, dust masks, paint and supplies) it's expensive.
Any suggestions? I'd like it to look semi-decent, but I'm not a TV studio set.
