I have done some research on the metal (both steel and aluminum soffit) and they both look great! I was going to contact Menards for another quote and noticed that they now have a PVC interior liner as well called Pro-Tuf for $31.39 / pc for a 12'x36" pc.

The cost seems about the same as the steel to do my garage (around $400-$500 with J channel and screws), but I think the PVC might be a little easier to work with, cutting electrical boxes, etc.

Anyone use this stuff? Any opinions over using steel?

Also, is it recommended to run the panels perpendicular to the joist like drywall? OR can you run it parallel?

Thanks in advance!

Pros and Cons.

Steel is likely higher priced than plastic. (or, it should be)
Steel is fireproof, plastics burn.
Steel can cause "rain" inside if you have a cold climate and don't insulate it right. PVC won't.
Steel is more durable in the long run.
Plastics are easier to cut as you mentioned.

Weigh these things and everything else and go with what you like.

Manufacture site states they are non-flammable, so there's one less con for your decision.
