Ceiling fan: are the wires connected properly?

Hey Everyone,

I am attempting to install a ceiling fan/light, but I am stuck with the light switch install.

1st picture: fan connected, properly I hope.

2nd picture: light switches

3rd picture: 2 light dimmers included with fan

The 2 light dimmers have two black wires and a ground wire. I attempted to connect one black to the black wire with the red circle over it and the other black wire with the two white wires with the green marker on it and there was a spark followed by the lights going out briefly.

Now one of the dimmers smells fried so I don’t want to attempt to connect the second one.

I also notice that neither of the two light dimmers that we already have connected and working have the ground cable connected.

They were already like this when we moved in.

There is another black wire connected with a red one. Plus another black connected with another black wire.

I’ve installed several smart dimmers, but this setup has me a bit confused [emoji2369]

Thanks in advance.

In the first photo I think I see a white wire from box connected to white from fan.
Also a red from box to black from fan.
Also green ground connection.
The red wire at the wire nut has copper exposed. Trim the wire and remake the connection.
I do not see a black wire from box. Is that correct?

Next I believe you connected your dimmer directly across the line and neutral wires in the box. And ****.

If my statements about the box at the fan are correct, then you should connect a dimmer black to the red in the switch box. The other dimmer black goes to the line lead in the switch box (it's likely black). The line lead should have 120V on it fed from a circuit breaker.
Connect green to ground.
The dimmer does not connect to white in the switch box.

Thanks for the reply. There is no black wire (only red and white) coming from the box where the fan is. I am going to cut the exposed cable off of the red wire as well.

It's been a while so i need to open the switch box to get familiar with the wiring again.

I connected the second black wire to the two black wires with the red wire nut and the second black wire to the two red wires with the yellow wire nut. Is this correct? I didn't hear any **** this time either.

Update:

The fan or light didn't turn on with the current connection. the only thing that turns on (with the new dimmer) is the lights controlled by the light switch that goes in the middle of the switch box

Your switch box picture is too hard to make out. Your house's 120v Line wire needs to be connected to the switch's Line-in wire (black?). Your house's neutral wire needs to be connected to the fan controller's neutral- looks like white in your ceiling box. The dimmer switch's Line-out wire (also black?) needs to be connected to the fan controller's Line-in. The wire between the switch box and the ceiling box for this purpose looks to be orange. None of the white wires should be connected to your switch.

Why do you mention two dimmer switches? There's only one shown on the wiring diagram.

All three dimmers (including the fan light switch) are connected to the same red wire nut here.

I edited the picture. Hope it makes sense. IMG_7638.jpg
