ceiling fan down rod length?

Going up w/ a pole building. 54' x 72' x 12' (3888 sq ft). Insulated.....w/ heat & AC.
Planning on putting in 4 ceiling fans. How long do I want the down rods?

The issue with most of the "Big *** Fans" is the 12' ceiling heights. Most require 10' clear of the floor, but are taller than 24".

I think 60" fans are going to be the winner here. Big *** Fans does have a 60" model called the Haiku.

You can't use the really big stuff, because there's not adequate room above the fan for airflow. Hence, you're likely limited to the 60" models.

If I remember correctly when I installed my Hunters in the house they wanted them around 8' for maximum air flow and feel but when I install them in the garage they will be installed without a down rod. If you are finishing the ceiling I would keep them as high as possible, if it is left open I would try to maintain the 12' wall height just keep them all at the same height from the floor.

My research has found that in my application 24" to 36" down rod is best considering whether it's heated or when it's cooled with A/C. Also that '72" diameter fan would be ideal, however I'm going overkill with the lights and with as many strips of t-5's as I'm going to have..... too big of a diameter could put the fan blades under a fixture and give a strobe effect. So I'll prbably go with the 60" fan.

My garage ceiling fan has no down rod. I have 12 foot finished ceilings. You can def. feel it

I have a steel building (so no ceiling) and fabricated 4 ft down rods for the HD 60 inch industrial fans (MASH HERE for my post in the 60 inch ceiling fan thread

The fans are 15 ft off the floor and have about 5-6 ft open above them, and they seem to do well at keeping the warm air pushed down to the floor, and in the summer they draw that superheated air down (when first turned on) where the breezes carry the hot air out of the building, so in short order, the air blowing down is pleasant on a hot day.

I think the HD fans came with 8 and 18 inch downrods. You would probably want to use the 8 inch ones to keep the fans up out of the way if you have a 12 ft ceiling.
